Space Systems is seeking an Associate Software Engineer/Software Engineer.  The role is for a software safety engineer which does not involve software coding.  This position will be located at our Launch Vehicles business unit in Chandler, AZ.

Roles and Responsibilities –

Candidate must be willing to learn software safety roles and responsibilities. Work with Systems Safety team members to assess the System and Electrical Design to determine software controls that can contribute to hazards.  Identifies Software Criticality Index (SwCI) for software functions using MIL-STD-882E based on the contributing software and the associated potential hazards.  Performs associated Level of Rigor (LOR) tasks which vary based on the LOR required but include detailed evaluation of Safety Significant software Requirements, Architecture, Design, Code, and Test.  Communicates with the Software team and various others disciplines to support the design of the launch vehicle along with the software design and ensure proper flow down of software safety requirements.  Documents analysis performed on the LOR tasks and presents findings to peers, customers, and management.  Ensures software safety standards are met.

Basic Qualifications for Associate Software Engineer:

Must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be knowledgeable in Object Oriented Programming

  • Be completing or has completed their Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.

  • Be majoring in or having majored in a Software Engineering or related field

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

Basic Qualifications for Software Engineer:

  • Be majoring in or having majored in a Software Engineering or related field

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Be knowledgeable in embedded real-time systems programming

  • Have experience with deriving software requirements

  • Have experience with verifying software requirements

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.7 out of 4.0 or higher


Salary Range: $60,600 USD - $91,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $73,400 USD - $110,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
