The Distributed Sites Camarillo team supports several Airborne Electronic Attack programs across two offices – Camarillo and Pt Mugu. As a Software Engineer for our organization, you will support the EA-18G Growler programs including efforts involved in Mission Planning, Tools Development, Software Test and so much more!

The Software Engineer will have an in-depth software background to include experience with RF or EW or RADAR. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate that enjoys learning and solving problems. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on complex electronic warfare simulators alongside a multi-disciplinary team. We are looking for an individual that is passionate, driven, a self-starter, and goal oriented.

The person selected for this position may receive training at other Northrop Grumman sites prior to working at Pt. Mugu, CA.

Roles & responsibilities:

  • Interact independently with customers and coordinate engineering efforts to solve customer reported problems.
  • Provide Engineering support to resolve system level problems on delivered hardware.
  • Maintain operational status and configuration of NGC Electronic Warfare Hardware.
  • Utilize knowledge, test equipment, and instrumented data to troubleshoot hardware failures and software anomalies.
  • Support customer missions, monitor and convey performance.
  • Generate weekly status reports documenting test events and anomalies warranting further investigation.

 Basic Qualifications for a Sr Principal Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline with 9 or more years engineering experience, or an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Degree. Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 7 or more years of experience, or an additional 6 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Degree.
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to frequently move and position objects weighing 50 lbs.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (or higher) that has been granted or renewed within the last 5 years or is currently enrolled in continuous evaluation.
  • Software knowledge (the following will be considered: Windows PowerShell or Batch file experience or Linux command line experience, utilization of editors to modify config files or XML knowledge).
  • Experience troubleshooting & solving problems and strong desire to understand how the system works
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining a calm, patient demeanor in front of the customer.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Ability to navigate Linux from the command line
  • Basic Web and XML understanding
  • Experience with Wireshark
  • Basic internet protocol (IP) understanding
  • Ability to configure networks and resolve ethernet or fiber communication issues
  • Experience with RADAR, Electronic Warfare systems, RF Engineering, or other electronics background that includes experience testing, troubleshooting, and performing repairs.
  • Security+ certification
  • Experience leading teams and interfacing with customers
  • Fluent in RF / Electrical test equipment, Spectrum Analyzer, Power Meter, Oscilloscope and Digital Multi-Meters. 
  • Experience with RF generation equipment, understanding of RF synthesis and mixing techniques.

This position reports to Camarillo, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Point Mugu, CA, CA, USA.


Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
