Embedded Software Engineer / Principal Embedded Software Engineer – (Secret Clearance required)

Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems is looking for you to join our team as an experienced Software Engineer with the Software Engineering organization based out of Manhattan Beach, CA. 

The Software Engineer will develop software which will operate in a resource constrained target environment with soft and hard real time requirements for various flight/space/ground systems. The software will typically implement complex data analysis, data routing, and/or control systems algorithms. Candidate will need familiarity with various processor, memory, and I/O architectures and be able to implement both procedural and object-oriented software in C/C++ languages. Candidate must be comfortable in a lab environment and collaborating with team / program members.

Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product software. Determines overall system and user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

Additionally, we are offering an opportunity for potential candidates to interact with current team members which provides greater insight to the work environment and team culture. Some of our team and program members will be present to respond to questions which makes it an interactive experience.

*This role requires to be onsite daily with no option for remote/hybrid work. Additionally, we are a 100% coding team that develops and tests onsite: requires working in the lab daily with team members.

This requisition may be filled at either a Software Engineer level or Principal Software Engineer level based on the qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications – Software Engineer

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering discipline with a strong desire to interface and work with hardware
• 2+ years software development experience in a professional environment working with cross-functional teams (i.e., Electronics/Hardware team or similar)
• Proficient with Object-Oriented software design and C/C++
• Experience working in a VxWorks and/or Linux operating systems environment
• Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and innovative problem-solving skills
• Active US DoD Secret Government Clearance

Basic Qualifications: Principal Software Engineer

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering discipline with a strong desire to interface and work with hardware
• 5+ years software development experience in a professional environment with the desire to work with cross-functional teams (i.e., Electronics/Hardware team or similar)
• Proficient with Object-Oriented software design and C/C++
• Experience working in a VxWorks or Linux operating systems environment
• Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and innovative problem-solving skill
• Active US DoD Secret Government Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
• Experience in multiple programming languages including C/C++ working with embedded systems
• Experience across the full life cycle including software systems architecture development, requirements definition and analysis, OO development, code and unit test, system integration and test

Salary Range: $85,000 USD - $127,400 USD

Salary Range 2: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
