Northrop Grumman Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) Division in Aurora, CO seeks a highly motivated individual to manage and develop early career engineers. This manager will have approximately 30 direct reports and will be part of a larger team of managers for the Aurora campus. The direct reports will span technical areas such as software development, database administration, network engineers, and systems administrators.  Sound engineering experience as well as a passion for mentoring and developing employees are a must.

This person will report into the Software and Digital Engineering Department Manager for specific engineering discipline area and will not have direct program assignments.  This position is contingent on funding due to anticipated organizational growth.

Responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-day communications , compensation reviews, career counseling and mentoring, professional development, employee rewards and recognition and resolving personnel issues for assigned staff.
  • Lead team in completing all corporate requirements completely and on time to include: Goal Setting, Midyear Feedback and End of Year Performance Reviews.
  • Provide staffing support to programs and other initiatives across the Aurora campus.
  • Collaborate with other Section Managers and Department Manager to ensure a common approach to engineering leadership is established.
  • Provide status to or consult with Department Manager regarding assigned staff, including performance, engagement, compensation, recognition, training, staffing, employee relations and other items.
  • Responsible for staffing, to include the re-assignment of current staff, bringing in NG staff from outside of the Aurora area and hiring new employees.
  • Collaborate with HRBP in support of assigned staff, including performance, compensation, engagement, employee relations, short-term disability, staffing requisitions and offers, employee mobility and other activities.
  • Monthly 1:1s with individuals to ensure bi-lateral communications are established to focus on the needs and aspirations of the employee.
  • Monthly staff meetings to keep all informed of current events and to allow for networking and team building.

In addition, a strong focus on early career development to include:

  • Understanding and expertise on the Pathways program, partnering with Division Early Career Talent (ECT) Leadership
  • Professional and technical development training opportunities targeted for early career.
  • Coaching and mentoring on career development.
  • Organize 1:1s, skip levels and other engagement opportunities with senior and executive leadership.
  • Learn and educate others on employee rotational programs by partnering with Division Early Career Talent (ECT) Lead and other support organizations that offer targeted opportunities for rotations.
  • Identify site openings for Pathways rotations and work to closure.
  • Partnership with University Relations & Recruiting for attracting new talent for internship and fulltime opportunities to include participating in recruiting, interviews, and selection.
  • Help organize and implement summer intern engagement activities.


 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline with 5+ years of engineering experience OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience in one of the related disciplines:  Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Database Administration, or Linux/Windows systems administration.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) required, and the ideal candidate will have demonstrated success collaborating and leading technical teams.
  • Ability to provide career development guidance to new college graduates throughout the first 3 years of their career
  • Candidate will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business.
  • Candidate must pass a Security pre-screen and be eligible to obtain DoD Top Secret clearance and SCI access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7 years experience (with STEM BS degree) or 5 years experience (with STEM MS degree) in either Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Database Administration, or Linux/Windows systems administration.
  • Current experience as a team lead or direct manager of people.
  • Ability to effectively interface with other Engineering and Production disciplines across the Business Unit as well as Programs.
  • Experience with providing career development guidance to junior employees
  • ACTIVE TS clearance or SCI access.


Salary Range: $117,600 USD - $176,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
