About our Aurora Engineering organization: You'll be joining our growing Aurora Software and Digital Engineering department which has 200+ Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, Systems Administrator, Database Administrator, and Network Engineer peers from entry-level to the most senior chief engineers and architects. Senior Principal Software Engineers are expected to be role-models and mentors to less-experienced staff. Senior Principal Software Engineers may also get into informal and formal technical leadership roles within their programs, as applicable and per interest. We have plenty of opportunity for career advancement into higher level technical roles or leadership positions. Our Software Department is part of a larger organization that includes Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test staff as well as a Hardware Engineering unit. This larger organization influences cross-program collaboration, professional development and training, as well as engagement and inclusion activities such as lunch-n-learns, campus events, and leadership mixers.
About this specific job: You’ll be joining an existing on-contract classified portfolio called Swordfish and one of its program’s we call “TPSE”. This program provides coordinated planning and execution with a diverse set of advanced and traditional assets in traditionally denied environments by delivering a Common Operating Picture that ensures real-time situational awareness. It supports Combatant and Air Component Commanders and Joint All Domain Command Control. The program is small geographically dispersed team using Agile methods with Atlassian tools. The program’s codebase is Java and Javascript. They use Jenkins, Maven, Nexus, Docker/Kubernetes, and Helm.
Software engineers at our Principal (T03) and Senior Principal (T04) levels are expected to quickly gain mission and system domain knowledge coupling that with prior experience to mentor and influence others as well as contribute to advancing the program forward. Basic Qualifications:
- Principal SW Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in Science with 5+ years of relative software development experience; 3+ years relative SW development experience with a Master's; or 4 additional years of relative experience in lieu of a degree.
- Sr. Principal SW Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in Science with 8+ years of relative software development experience; 6+ years relative SW development experience with a Master's; or 4 additional years of relative experience in lieu of a degree
- Active Top Secret clearance required at time of application, with the ability to obtain an SCI clearance prior to starting work.
- Ability to pass a Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI-Poly) (not required to start)
- Experience working on a geographically dispersed team
- Experience on a program applying Agile principles, processes, and tools
- Experience developing applications in Java
Preferred Qualifications:
It is preferred that a given candidate has some of the preferred qualifications below. No expectation of all.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar
- Current Top Secret/SCI security clearance
- Ability to travel (limited, up to 10%)
- Prior completed Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI-Poly)
- Prior engineering or development experience with the Space Industry
- Ability to effectively communicate and present to program management and customers
- Ability to effectively write technical documentation
- Experience sharing knowledge, mentoring, and working in a collaborative environment
- At least 3 years of experience developing object-oriented applications in Java
- Experience developing Frontend software, including at least 1 year of experience developing applications in Javascript
- Experience using message brokers in event-driven publish/subscript architecture (for example with ActiveMQ, Kafka, DDS, etc.)
- Experience developing to deploying containerized systems, including the use of Kubernetes, Docker, Nexus Repository, and Helm
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps, including the use of Jenkins and Maven
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, testing, and troubleshooting skills
- Active Security+ (or similar) certification
