The Launch and Missile Defense Systems division within Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an Algorithm Software Engineer Developer / Mathematician with Linux environment and software development exposure. Our domain provides rewarding work that contributes to the latest advancements being made in the missile defense industry. The position is located in Boulder, CO – Boulder is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and only 25 miles from downtown Denver.

Essential Functions:

  • Performance analysis of tracking and state estimation algorithms
  • Tool and prototype development using C/C++ and Python 
  • Algorithm defect tracking and resolution

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications for Level 2 or 3:

  • Software Engineer (Level 2): Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 2 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Principal Software Engineer (Level 3): Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years experience, or a PhD.
  • Linux exposure
  • C/C++ - 2 years development experience
  • Algorithm design and state estimation experience
  • Data analysis - Population statistics and trend identification
  • Bridge between theoretical concepts and practical implementation
  • Applicants must have an active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance which is required to start; with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong statistical background and skills
  • Experience in tracking and prediction algorithms, simulation, and validation
  • Experience in the numerical implementation of motion filters.
  • Familiarity with Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) and Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) sensors and simulations is a plus
  • Experience with PERL, STK, or logging and parsing tools

Salary Range: $85,000 USD - $127,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
