Northrop Grumman is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.  The position is based at a facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

This role will work as support on the Sustainment and Modification of Radar Sensors (SMORS) program. This position will work in an Agile environment and be a software developer supporting the Perimeter Acquisition Radar Attack Characterization System (PARCS).

Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Lead a team of 10-20 software developers.
  • Provide day to day support of software developers to accomplish committed objectives and prioritized software development tasks.
  • Assure quality of developed code and adhere to best engineering practices to minimize software defects and impact to the PARCS mission system.
  • Strategically develop solutions to complex problems within given constraints.
  • Provide guidance on software architecture and design.
  • Identifying technical risks/opportunities and proactively developing plans to mitigate and realize them.
  • Develop software solutions using C++ and Java. Software development activity may range from bug remediation to technical debt burn down to modification of the sensor’s legacy code.
  • Participate in the PARCS Agile environment, specifically practicing Scaled Agile (SAFe) on a daily basis. This will include Agile ceremonies and events, working in the Atlassian suite of tools, planning stories and sprints, regular engagement with the customer Product Owners and Scrum Masters.
  • Determines the customer’s needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
  • Mentor junior level software developers and provide coaching, technical direction, and facilitation.
  • Ensure software engineering standards are met and practice solid engineering fundamentals to meet quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams that are multi-disciplinary, including customer representatives.
  • Provide support to the PARCS DevSecOps Environment.
  • Participate in software implementation to include static code analysis, unit-level testing and documentation.
  • Perform/support rapid software defect root cause analysis and solution development.
  • Position may require up to 25% travel.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 9 years of relevant software experience; 7 years with a Master’s; 4 years with a PhD; 13 or more years of software engineering experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Must have Active/Current/Interim Secret security clearance or higher to be considered**
  • Experience developing real-time Object-Oriented Software architectures, coding languages should include C/C++ and Java.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Experience leading small teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the full Agile lifecycle.
  • Possess a DoD cyber security certification such as Security +, Cyber Security Service Provider (CSSP).
  • Have a strong background in static and dynamic code analysis and reporting.
  • Able to deliver successful results based on general objectives with minimal guidance.
  • Experience with leading software defect root cause analysis and solution development.
  • Familiarity with Missile Defense, Missile Warning and Space Situational Awareness missions.
  • Familiarity with Phased Array Radar technology.
  • Experience in the use of Atlassian tools.
  • Experience with Real Time Operating systems.
  • Strong ability to debug and trace existing baseline for system troubleshooting and impact analysis.
  • Understanding of standard software development lifecycle and supporting technical stack.
  • Must be able to work in a group environment.
  • Ability to efficiently and independently multi-task in an extremely demanding and deadline-driven environment.
  • Must have strong organization skills and an ability to prioritize assigned work in order to meet deadlines.
  • Must be detail-oriented with good written and verbal communication skills.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Salary Range:  $117,900 - $176,900

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
