Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer – X-Lab to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located out of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The X-Lab is a very fast paced and dynamic environment. The X-Lab is responsible for developing future looking prototypes for the Missile Defense System. The X-Lab Principal Software Engineer will work with our Post-Intercept Assessment (PIA) Team developing software prototypes for experimentation and analysis.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical expertise and support in collecting and interpreting data and analyzing results using statistical techniques, and software development of new capabilities as well as integration into the existing C2BMC software framework.
  • Handling the requirements, documentation, and testing of these software components is also a major role responsibility.
  • While the primary focus will be on data analysis and software development/integration, algorithm prototyping and development support for the Missile Defense System may also be required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 0 years of related experience, or 9 years related experience in lieu of a degree
  • Experience with data analysis is required.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, or other data processing language as well as associated data collection and analysis toolkits is required.
  • Software/systems engineering experience.
  • Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions.
  • Experience in data analysis, software development, software testing, algorithm development, troubleshooting, and one or more of the following areas: system analysis, design, modeling, simulation, integration.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance which is required to start

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Java or other object-oriented language (C++, C#, Go, etc.), especially integration of software into an existing Java network/ecosystem of microservices is desired.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI is desirable.
  • The ideal candidate would have extensive experience working in the missile defense domain, specifically in tracking and discrimination.
  • Experience using Command, Control Battle Management, Communications (C2BMC) software processes and methods is highly desirable.

Salary Range: $95,100 USD - $142,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
