The Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS), Global Surveillance division is looking for the right individual to join our software team. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.

Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

This is a vital role supporting the program in mission critical software design and development. Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious. Candidate will work under only general direction, independently determines, and develops approaches to solutions supporting the program needs. Candidate will also work assigned defect reports against the product to support incremental software releases. Candidate must be able to develop software in both the desktop and computer hardware environment. Candidate will act as a liaison from time to time with frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Candidate will be responsible for both cross-product coordination within the program Software IPT, and cross-IPT coordination within the program, allocating developer resources where necessary.  Develops advanced technological ideas and guides their development into a final product. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve critical organizational objectives and effect the image of the organization technological capability. Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and/or programs. Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications. Candidate shall be willing to travel to other sites to support TIMs, integration efforts, and other software related tasking. The Candidate shall also be willing to adjust work schedule on occasion to support travel off-site to support integration and test activities.

Essential Functions:
•    Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex difficult problems that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with programs objectives
•    In depth understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field listed under the basic qualifications
•    Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions
•    Conduct multidisciplinary research, collaborates on equipment and hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for products
•    Follows and ensures software standards are met
•    Develop vertically-traceable requirements
•    Develop software to meet documented requirements
•    Work assigned defect reports in a timely fashion to support incremental product builds and releases as required
•    Assist with product integration in the lab(s)
•    Provide first-time software quality by developing code unit tests of developed software, and being equally meticulous in code peer reviews of other developers’ software changes
•    Manage all product activities for a team of developers, employing an AGILE-focused process
•    Manage workflow requests from other product leads within the Software IPT, as well as product leads from other IPTs
•    Coordinate the activities of the product-level CCB and ensure its efficient functioning
•    Coordinate all product-level software verification and release activities within the larger program schedules
•    Primary product representative for product integration in on-site labs and at off-site integration facilities,

Basic Qualifications:
•    Senior Principal Engineer Software -- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical degree and 9+ years of experience in software development, or 7+ years with master’s degree or additional years of experience (military or commercial) in the software engineering field may be considered in lieu of degree.

•    Experience developing in C/C++
•    Experience developing software in a real-time, multi-threaded, rate-monotonic scheduling architecture
•    This position requires U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance 

 within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs, can start with interim Secret.

•    The ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access within a reasonable period (as determined by the company to meet program objectives)

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Active In-Scope DOD Top Secret clearance
•    Working knowledge of MIL-STD-1553B, IEEE-1394b, and RS-232/422/485 data bus implementations and structured protocols.

•    AGILE process knowledge

•    Experience and demonstrated ability to lead and manage technical teams responsible for all aspects of safety-critical system development including job analysis, new product design, system

•    Experience designing, developing, integrating, verifying and qualifying safety-critical real-time embedded computing systems including experience with software and systems engineering.
•    Experience developing on a program that delivers periodic releases in a process-driven CMMI environment for a government customer
•    Python scripting knowledge
•    CMAKE script knowledge
•    Git source control knowledge
•    Atlassian Suite (Jira, BitBucket, etc) knowledge
•    Real-Time Component Framework (RTCF) knowledge
•    Experience with requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS)
•    Previous VMC lead experience on a medium-to-large program
•    Previous experience with anti-tamper and other cyber resiliency techniques used to create, protect and execute trusted software
•    Previous experience with the VxWorks Hypervisor environment
•    DO-178B and Airworthiness process knowledge
•    AGILE training for Scrum Master and Product Owner


Salary Range: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
