Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector has a need for an Embedded Software Engineer / Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join our organization in Rolling Meadows, IL.  As an integral member of the Special Tactical Electronic Warfare Systems (STEWS) Engineering team, you will participate in design, development, and modernization to systems ranging from airborne RF and IR systems, laboratory test stations, and transportable flight line electronic combat system test sets.  Our ideal candidate will possess technical expertise and collaborative people skills with the proven ability to work within a technically diverse team. This position is located in Rolling Meadows, IL.

Responsibilities:
Design, develop, document, debug and test software applications and computing system software to be applied to and integrated with engineering, scientific and manufacturing requirements. Apply the appropriate standards, processes, procedures and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of such engineering applications and products.

This position may be filled at either Embedded Software Engineer or Principal Embedded Software Engineer level.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications for Embedded Software Engineer (Level 2):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or STEM related discipline and at least 2 years related experience

  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a US Government Secret Clearance

  • Experience dealing with performance optimizations in a symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) environment in a multi-core CPU system

  • Documenting software design using Unified Modeling Language (UML)

  • Experience implementing graphical user interfaces

  • Software testing/debugging in a laboratory environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong team building skills, and be comfortable working on a team with other engineering disciplines. 

Basic Qualifications for Principal Embedded Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or STEM related discipline and at least 5 years related experience

  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a US Government Secret Clearance

  • Experience dealing with performance optimizations in a symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) environment in a multi-core CPU system

  • Documenting software design using Unified Modeling Language (UML)

  • Experience implementing graphical user interfaces

  • Software testing/debugging in a laboratory environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong team building skills, and be comfortable working on a team with other engineering disciplines. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the design, development and test, or sustainment of airborne electronic systems

  • Experience with VxWorks and Linux operating systems

  • Familiarity with version control software (SVN/Git)

  • Experience with common Linux IDE debugging environments- such as Eclipse.

  • Current/Active DoD Secret Security Clearance


Salary Range: $78,600 USD - $118,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $96,900 USD - $145,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
