Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Software Engineer to support the Embedded Software, Software, Digital and Subsystems Engineering teams. 

As part of our Software and Digital Technologies Organization you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation to help develop, enhance and maintain software on cutting edge products and systems. Candidates will work on software systems for mission systems in all phases of the software development lifecycle, primarily in C/C++.

As part of our Software Engineering Team in Mission Systems you will be responsible for all phases of the software development lifecycle including design, development, documenting, testing, and debugging applications software that contains logical and mathematical solutions.

As part of our Embedded Software Engineering Team in Mission Systems you will be responsible for designing, developing, operating and maintaining software and firmware components and computing systems software to be applied to and integrated with engineering, scientific and manufacturing requirements.

As part of our Digital Subsystems Engineering Team in Mission Systems you will be able to use your advanced digital technologies knowledge and engineering experience to help develop deployable solutions for our customers.

This position will be located at one of our three locations in: Baltimore, Linthicum or Annapolis, Maryland.

Basic Qualifications Senior Principal Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in science, engineering, or related discipline with 9 years of experience; or 7 years of relevant experience with a Masters (MS) degree or 4 years of relevant experience with a Ph.D.

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain or maintain an active U.S. Government DOD Secret Clearance

  • Object oriented programming and development: C++, C

  • Experience working in a Linux Development Environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with UVM and use of a coverage-driven verification methodology

  • Familiar with developing test plans, participating in reviews, test development and RTL debug

  • Familiar with Embedded Microprocessors, Microelectronic Modules or Digital Processing Algorithms

  • Familiar with full product life cycle (requirements, design, implementation and test) of FPGA Design and/or ASIC Design

  • Familiar with System Verilog, Verilog and/or VHDL

  • Agile development experience

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

This position reports to Baltimore, MD, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 2 locations listed above.


Salary Range: $123,800 USD - $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
