The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Advanced Processing Solutions Business pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines the leading edge of exotic new technologies, and drives advances in the sciences. Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector (NGMS) is a leading global provider of secure software-defined, hardware enabled mission systems. Our company is pioneering capabilities in a wide variety of sectors that keep our nation and our allies’ safe from undersea to space and cyberspace. NGMS is seeking Engineers with demonstrated ability to lead development of new technologies to support our innovative Transformational Computing team to help develop software in support of emerging supercomputing technologies.

Responsibilities:

Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

This candidate must possess the ability to work as a member of a small, highly-skilled team in a dynamic environment, as well as to participate in systems design, code development, debugging, and integration and testing of new capabilities, enhancements and modifications into the operational baseline. The work expands automated, continuous software deliveries from multiple development teams to deployments on-premise systems.

This position requires onsite work at our Linthicum, MD and Annapolis Junction locations.

Job Description:

  • Implement various development, testing, automation tools, and IT infrastructure
  • Build and set up new development tools and infrastructure
  • Work on ways to automate and improve development and release processes
  • Implement authentication concepts such as LDAP
  • Implement general infrastructure and application security concepts
  • Work with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, for both development and deployment.
  • Experience using and managing these DevOps Tools: Ansible and GitLab
  • Experience in one or more of these scripts: shell script, yaml, Python, Batch script
  • Expert in Linux administration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning 
  • Production experience writing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Candidates must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD TS/SCI clearance

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, Information Technology, or comparable degree plus a minimum of 9 year's of related experience; 7 years of related experience with a Master's Degree; 6 plus months with a PHD
  • Proficient with various Linux distributions
  • Software Development Skills:  C/C++/Java/Node/NodeJS or Javascript, scripting, python.
  • Proficient with Source Control CI/CD: GitLab, Jenkins, GOCD.
  • Code building experience: Maven, Gradle, Gunicorn, etc.
  • Repository management experience: Nexus, Artifactory
  • Experience with Authentication: Keycloak, OpenSSL, PKCS12, X.509, AD/LDAP.
  • Proficient with Container Orchestration: Docker-Compose, Kubernates, Openshift.
  • Agile experience with Kanban.
  • Problem solving skills: Divide and conquer strategy, mitigate/record/report/remediate.
  • Candidates must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD TS/SCI clearance

This position reports to Linthicum, MD, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Annapolis Junction, MD, MD, USA.


Salary Range: $123,800 USD - $185,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
