Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS), Beavercreek Ohio, is seeking a DevOps Engineer to maintain and enhance capabilities in support of programs at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.  The candidate will be an active part of a DevOps Engineering focused team providing technical expert on Kubernetes, GitLab, Harbor, and related DevOps technologies. They will advise on all aspects of containerized deployments including deployment, configuration, scaling upgrades, and optimization. The candidate will hold expertise designing and supporting highly scalable and highly available infrastructure and applications in Kubernetes as well as promoting microservice design patterns in complex environments. They will play a pivotal role in development and maintenance of continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines. Successful candidates should have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Summary of Responsibilities

Senior technical expert on Kubernetes and related DevOps technologies such as GitLab, Harbor, and more. Expected to bring expertise designing and supporting highly scalable and highly available infrastructure and applications in Kubernetes as well as promoting microservice design patterns in complex environments.

Basic Qualifications

  • One of the following:

    • High school diploma with a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience.

    • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math discipline with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience

    • Master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math discipline with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience

  • Must have an active TS/SCI Security Clearance

  • Experience with configuration and administration of DevOps tools such as Kubernetes and GitLab

  • Experience in development and maintenance of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment Pipelines

  • Experience with OCI-compliant container technology and tools (Docker, Podman, etc.)

  • Experience with Linux Operating System

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CompTIA Security+, CASP, or CISSP certification

  • Kubernetes related certifications such as CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator), CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer), CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist), KCSP (Kubernetes Certified Service Provider)

  • Experience hardening, securing the Kubernetes cluster with monitoring and auditing dashboards

  • Experience developing automation techniques that improve deployment speed and service reliability in the containerized environment

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and Ruby for automation tasks

  • Experience working in an Agile environment/working knowledge of Agile principles and practices

  • Experience with project/issue tracking software tools like Jira and Confluence

  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of Microservice Architectures

  • Experience with distributed revision-control systems such as Git

  • Experience with web services and APIs, and an understanding of testing for web-based APIs with tools such as Postman

This position reports to Beavercreek, OH, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, OH, USA.


Salary Range: $117,900 USD - $176,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
