Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Engineer DevOps.  This position will be located at Roy, UT or Huntsville, AL and will support the Sentinel program. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.  Final grade level offered will be based on candidate level of experience.

What You’ll Get to Do: 

The Software Development Environment (SDE) Engineer DevOps position will serve the Sentinel program and assist in defining the SDE and its long-term strategy across all software development. The overall team is responsible for the maturation and support of the SW development tools and environments for the life of the Sentinel Program.

The SDE Engineer DevOp role works to mitigate and eliminate issues that impact software development. This role is key in our Digital Transformation and relationship with the customer. Works across the NG Enterprise to help develop priorities for fixes and evolution of the environment. Current priorities/responsibilities impact all other system engineering and software development teams supporting Sentinel to include Northrop Grumman employees, contractors, and government counterparts. 
 

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans and evolves processes and infrastructure to execute programs which support rapid maturation and deployment of capability while sustaining a stable security posture and incorporating ongoing stakeholder feedback.

  • Integrates development pipelines leveraging automation with test-driven development tools and continuous integration/test frameworks.

  • Implements provisioning and deployment techniques via packaging, componentizing, or Cloud distribution.

  • Functions with agile principles to execute efficiently in an environment of continuous feedback.

  • Ensures implementation of Software Configuration Management (SCM), code quality, and code coverage with automated testing for Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. 

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • Able to communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings for distributed teams

  • Hands-on experience building platforms for containerized workloads leveraging Kubernetes and includes cluster provisioning, workload optimization, logging and monitoring, security, and troubleshooting

  • Software configuration management accomplished with Infrastructure as Code (IAC)

  • Troubleshoot issues faced in the working Kubernetes environment and CI/CD pipeline 

  • Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results 

  • Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives 

  • Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.   

Job Qualifications: 

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Staff Engineer DevOps:  14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD or 4 additional years in lieu of a degree

  • US Citizenship with an Active Secret Clearance or higher (awarded within the past 6 years) with the ability to receive a Special Access Program (SAP) certification

  • Ability to obtain, and maintain, a DoD Top Secret security clearance

  • Experience developing IT and cloud infrastructure

  • Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures

  • Experience in software engineering and design architecture

  • Advanced understanding of business analysis techniques and processes

  • Professional experience working with and analyzing computer hardware and software

  • Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • 5+ years’ experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and VMWare

  • Experience operating in and leading multiple project methodologies and approaches (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall)

  • High proficiency in technical problem solving; to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring

  • Multi-disciplined knowledge in areas related to engineering including systems design, hardware, software and firmware design, integration and test

  • Expert as a solutions, software or enterprise architect role

  • Active Top Secret Clearance

  • Current CISSP, CISSP-ISSAP or CSSLP certification

Salary Range: $139,000 USD - $208,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
