Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Specialty Engineering Manager 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This leadership role will be located in Huntsville, AL and will support the Sentinel program. This E3 Manager reports to the Sentinel Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Senior Manager.

What you will get to do:

The E3 Manager will provide personnel support to the E3 Team and will have responsibility for quality, technical execution of engineers. This position is a combination of hands-on management of engineering activities and personnel development and mentoring.  This role works closely with program leadership, the technical leaders, and functional subject matter experts within the E3 Team. This position requires experience in technical work and knowledge, and experience with leading technical teams over a broad range of tasks including design, implementation, test, verification, reporting and scheduling. The successful candidate must have the ability to lead teams in a fluid environment that requires teamwork with our Customer, NGC teams and suppliers to meet program objectives. A high degree of skill in critical decision making is imperative to perform in this environment. A working knowledge of ground-based deterrence systems is desirable.

Responsibilities include:

  • Communicate effectively and report regular status to Program Managers, IPT Management, and customer.
  • Lead a team of 8-10 Electrical and Systems Engineers with grade levels ranging from T01 through T06, including college interns.
  • Develop and support consistent execution of standard practices, best practices, methods, software and tools across programs. Implement lessons learned, standard practices, best practices, and continuous improvement plans. Lead projects and plans to improve technology, strategic capability, overall design, analysis and production capacity.
  • Coordinate with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance evaluations to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary.
  • Manage and forecast engineering resources in collaboration with engineering management and technical leaders.
  • Work with the program E3 Senior Manager and Technical Leads in establishing personal program and functional goals and perform performance evaluations and merit adjustments for subordinates. Provide personnel with career development, employee engagement, mentoring and coaching.
  • The selected candidate should thrive working in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, engaged in significantly diverse assignments, within a collaborative/team setting across all levels of the organization.
  • Manage content development and delivery of E3 CDRLs
  • Oversee E3 design team schedule and planning in support of system design reviews, materials development, recommendations, and document tracking

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.    

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 6 years experience.
  • Ability to hold Active DoD Secret Clearance or DoE equivalent
  • Ability to obtain special program access
  • Project management experience for technical, cost, and schedule milestones
  • 1 year of experience managing development efforts for complex systems
  • Formal management experience to include performance review for direct reports
  • 1 year of engineering experience in at least one of the Specialty Engineering disciplines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with managing/scheduling complex technical efforts
  • Prior experience leading 10+ person teams
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite, IBM DOORS,
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) experience or CAM training
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and ability to interface with senior management, peers, and employees
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and to meet program commitments in a highly concurrent engineering environment
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance; Active Top Secret clearance

Salary Range: $134,400 USD - $201,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
