Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Staff System Engineering Lead for Ground Missile Defense (GMD) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located in Huntsville, AL.

Responsibilities:

The Technical Lead will work closely with other team members to accomplish the following:

  • Support GMD Weapon Systems in architecting solutions for a cloud-based
  • Establish roadmaps and plans for technology advancements that drive the department.
  • Complete work independently and as a part of a technical team.
  • Interact with technical leadership to set course for future planning.
  • Frequently innovate to solve complex problems systemic across projects/disciplines.
  • Work with Cost Account Managers, Program Manager, and customer to define IMS milestones.
  • Act as the customer/supplier focal point.
  • Interact with multiple programs to provide consistent processes/results for the portfolio.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS Degree with 14 years of experience in software development, software/systems architecture, system administration, system integration, and fielding software/hardware products; MS Degree with 12 years of experience or a PhD with 9 years of experience
  • Requires active SECRET Clearance
  • Requires CompTia Security+ or DoD 8570 Tier II or Tier III Certification
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Previous experience as a Technical Lead Engineer in cybersecurity managing a team of 20+ software developers and system administrators.
  • Experience as an Agile Product Owner
  • Experienced with developing and implementing cybersecurity COTS tools. 
  • Experience implementing the following Operating Systems: Redhat, Windows, VMware
  • Experience with centralized logging, centralized authentication, multi factor authentication
  • Experience working in Defense industry on a DoD classified program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Top Secret Clearance
  • 20+ years’ experience in software development, software/systems architecture, system administration, system integration, and fielding software/hardware products
  • Experience with Ground Systems Responsible Engineer roles for cybersecurity products
  • Experience with NGC Change Management Processes and Procedures (CCB, BON, TON, TR, CR, CO)
  • Experience working with Operators, ISSO’s, and System Administrators to insure they understand the data, the data mining tools, and actions to take
  • Experience with User-based analytics


Salary Range: $162,500 USD - $243,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
