Principal - Sr. Principal Site Reliability Engineer/DevOps Engineer

The successful candidate for this position will design, implement and administer Dev*Ops software factories. Support the design, procurement and instantiation of a Software Factory to operate across a multi-site network.  Monitor and maintain the operation of the software factory to support high reliability program execution. The candidate will develop and maintain automation pipelines. The candidate will also be expected to interact with the other divisions within the company, partner organizations as well as the end customer.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with systems and network administrators.
  • Purchases hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
  • Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
  • Ancillary duties may include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space.

Level 3 Requirements: Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience; Master's with 3 years of experience.

Level 4 Requirements: Bachelor's degree with 9 years of experience; Master's with 7 years of experience; PhD with 4 years of experience.

Basic Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate shall possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or other technical degree.
  • A security clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance is required.
  • This is a full time onsite role.
  • Candidates should have experience with large software systems and the full software development lifecycle
  • Experience with software development (Java/Javascript, C++, C# or any modern object-oriented language) and its life cycle
  • Experience with build tools (i.e., Maven, Ant, GNU make) and/or continuous integration environments (i.e., Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo) and/or repositories (i.e. Nexus, JFROG)
  • Experience with Windows and Linux/Unix administration
  • Prior experience with DevOps and/or Software Factory implementation
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (i.e. PERL, Python, Bash, YAML)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Linux and Linux based software development tools
  • Experience with virtualization (i.e. VMWare)
  • Experience with automation/configuration management using either Ansible, Chef or equivalent
  • Integrate complex systems that facilitate continuous build, continuous integration, continuous test, continuous deployment
  • Direct Experience with build tools (i.e., Make, Gradle) and continuous integration environments (i.e., Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo)
  • Experience with source code configuration management tools (i.e git)
  • Ability to automate software builds and releases
  • Experience with spacecraft or launch systems software development is highly desired.
  • Certification from VMWare and Cisco
  • Experience using Amazon Web Services, Azure, including using AWS native services (Cloud Formation, S3, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience with concepts such as micro services (including scalability best practices), containers, and container orchestration using Docker or Kubernetes
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or equivalent
  • CISSP certification or equivalent


Salary Range: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
