Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager Engineering 1 located at Palmdale, CA that will transition to Edwards Air Force Base, CA.


The Engineering Manager 1 position's primary responsibility is as a shift supervisor in a flight test organization.  Duties include planning and managing work priorities and deadlines, overseeing adherence to company/government policies and procedures, and ensuring that quality and safety standards are met. This position is also responsible for managing technical risk, cost and reporting regularly to Flight Test leadership team on performance.  Daily responsibilities include leading a team of test professionals to support aircraft configuration, documentation, and scheduling to meet CTF (Combined Test Force) requirements.  Additional responsibilities include supporting annual procedure updates and audits to meet DCMA instructions. Professional interaction with all levels of company leadership as well as government CTF partners and GFR/DCMA representatives is required. Some travel may be required to support specific programs, ground operations, or special tests. 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 3 years of aerospace work experience or High School Diploma and 7 seven years of aerospace work experience in lieu of a degree

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with aircraft maintenance/operations 

  • Must have an Active DOD Secret clearance or higher

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Program Access within a reasonable amount of time

  • Selected Candidate must be willing to work various shifts depending on the business needs: 4x10 schedule (Mon-Thurs) 1st shift; 4x10 (Mon-Thurs) 2nd shift; 3x10 schedule Fri, Sat, Sun) 2nd shift; 3x10 schedule (Fri, Sat, Sun) 1st shift. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM)

  • Experience working at a military test site.  

  • Flight test experience.

  • Previous experience with ground/flight test operations

This position reports to Edwards AFB, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Palmdale, CA, CA, USA.


Salary Range: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
