Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Functional Homeroom Section Manager to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in South Bay Area (Redondo Beach/El Segundo).

The successful candidate shall demonstrate strong leadership skills to recruit, manage, and retain employees. The selected candidate shall be an effective communicator and problem solver who will develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrating abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

This is a dual role encompassing both functional management and technical performance on a specific program.

Responsibilities may include any or all of the following:

  • The Section Manager will be responsible for approximately 10 staff members with diverse disciplines system design: such as environmental control (ECS), auxiliary power (SPS), thermal, electrical, and mechanical design and integration.
  • General understanding of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques for analyzing various systems.
  • Conducting performance assessments, staffing, employee development, communication meetings, disciplinary actions, compensation adjustments, training & educational oversight/ approval and other routine personnel issues.
  • Provide the people, processes, and tools required to meet the current and future needs of programs and technologies within the NGAS portfolio.
  • Perform Workforce Planning in collaboration with the functional homeroom such as staffing, hiring, and onboarding.
  • Champion positive change within the organization to achieve competitive advantage for the division and sector
  • Develop and improve personnel, organizational technical skills and experience with aircraft subsystems
  • Work with Human Resources to mediate and resolve personnel issues

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM with 9 years of relevant engineering experience OR Master's Degree in STEM with 7 years of relevant engineering experience OR PhD in STEM with 4 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of SubSystem processes with demonstrated technical ownership experience in requirements analysis, architecture development, integration, test, or verification.
  • Familiarity with aerospace design and verification processes including requirements development and verification, preliminary and detailed design, MRP, Planning, Manufacturing, Procurement and Maintenance.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain special program access.

Preferred Qualifications:     

  • Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty
  • Prior experience in a lead role in a technical engineering capacity
  • Familiarity with model-based engineering is preferred
  • Experience with creation of system specifications, requirements traceability and verification is preferred
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Proven demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • High proficiency in technical problem solving.

Salary Range: $147,800 USD - $221,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
