Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager Manufacturing Systems Engineering 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.

Essential Functions:

  • The Manufacturing Systems Engineer develops requirements, performs technical planning, manufacturing system development/integration, verification and validation, and evaluates cost (implementation, savings and return on investment) and implementation/program risk impacts.
  • Manufacturing systems engineers follow projects through all manufacturing readiness level phases: concept development, design, fabrication/assembly/test at lab level, production environment demo, full production operations implementation, sustainment/maintenance/ continuous improvement.
  • These projects focus on advanced and emerging manufacturing capabilities/digital technologies with the goal of improving overall production manufacturing quality, span times/time to market and reduce cost. Leads project technical proposal/SOW writing & estimating while ensuring systemic conversion of requirements to design, implementation and production validations. 
  • Manages project cost and schedule through all phases and execution of transition to production activities of the developed systems to program and functional manufacturing spaces. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field and 6 years of relevant professional experience (4 years with a Master's degree) 
  • 3 years of leadership experience
  • This position requires an Active DOD Secret Clearance, with investigation completed within the last 5 years, as well as ability to obtain/maintain Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Functional management experience in a position responsible for staffing, hiring, training and development, status reporting, and processes conformance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • A strong understanding of material science and manufacturing processes in general
  • 3 yr min Experience with additive manufacturing processes including powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, and material extrusion.
  • Experience developing additive manufacturing technologies (including machines and/or materials) for metals, polymers, and composite manufacturing
  • Familiarity with non-destructive testing for aerospace grade materials and processes
  • Experience and ability to use MS Project to manage technology development projects
  • Experience in aerospace materials allowables development
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of applied statistics and designs of experiments (DOEs)
  • Knowledge of aerospace thermoplastics including, PEEK, PEAK, PEI, etc., and experience additively processing the materials
  • Experience in non-destructive testing techniques used in aerospace production
  • Experience in chemical engineering, and aerospace-grade polymers
  • Experience with quality assurance protocols within aerospace industries
  • Experience in proposal development in military aerospace, and experience in customer funded program execution
  • Experience interfacing with military aerospace customers
  • 3 yr min experience with program management and execution (including task, schedule, and budget)
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary team to fulfill NCTA and CRAD program goals 
  • Familiarity with the requirements definition and understanding of the manner in which these requirements drive implementation 


Salary Range: $147,800 USD - $221,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
