Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking Principal or Sr Principal EW / Radar / System Modeling Engineer to join the Redondo Beach Systems Engineering Department. Our work influences the investment decisions and development paths of our senior program leadership and customer program offices. The Ops Analysis team draws from many other disciplines (e.g. Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, etc.) and collaborates across diverse and functional disciplines offering a unique opportunity to obtain a broad understanding of many areas as well as the opportunities to implement cutting-edge software, data, and analysis solutions. The position may be worked out of El Segundo or San Diego CA. This is an onsite position and no hybrid or telecommute will be available.
The selected candidate will be responsible for development and implementation of new and existing high fidelity, system performance models, threat models, and command & control models.
Essential Functions:
- Development of mathematical algorithms for mode/sensor implementation
- Develops software to model behavior of systems in real-time and constructive simulations of sensors and other platforms.
- Solicit input from various stakeholders, synthesize data, and communicate results to various levels of leadership within the organization.
- Technical team leadership participating in technical peer reviews throughout the product lifecycle of design, development, integration and test, flight test requirements verification, and sustainment.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and:
- For Principal Systems Engineer (level 3) – 5 years of experience or 3 years of experience and Master’s Degree or 0 years of experience and PhD.
- For Senior Principal Systems Engineer (level 4) – 8 years of experience or 6 years of experience and Master’s Degree or 3 years of experience and PhD.
- Ability to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems.
- Ability to work with a team in a rapid prototyping environment.
- Experience with one of the following:
- Signals processing
- Radar systems
- Electronics systems performance analysis, test or integration
- MATLAB, C/C++, Python or related languages
- Research, Analysis, and Creating Assessments of Foreign Threats to US Military Operations
- Analysis at the Survivability, Lethality, Vulnerability, Engagement, and/or Mission Level
- Vehicle performance analysis
- Air vehicle survivability analysis
- Modeling and Simulation of Radars, Missiles, Integrated Air Defense Systems (IADS), Air and/or Space platforms
- Electronic Attack (EA), Electronic Protection (EP), Electronic Countermeasures
- Red and/or Blue CONOPs and TTPs
- An active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required to start.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
- Must have ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with Air-to-Air and/or Air-to-Ground modes
- Demonstrated mathematical problem-solving ability and data analysis experience
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication, presentation skills, verbal and written communication skills
- Work experience with one of the following areas related to radar systems: search or track, surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic protection, ID, or adaptive technique
- Customer focus and collaboration skills
- Strong desire to learn, take initiative and contribute within a team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated team leadership experience
- An understanding of the physical limitations to implementing complex algorithms in real hardware
