The Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) Systems Engineering Specialties Dept. is seeking a Sr Principal / Principal Systems Safety Engineer to join a group of talented engineers. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on complex missile systems alongside a multi-disciplinary team. We are looking for an individual that is passionate, driven, and goal oriented.

This position can be located in Northridge, CA. or in Tucson, AZ.

In this position, the selected candidate will (but not be limited to): 
• Analyze, recommend, and drive safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures in order to mitigate or eliminate hazards
• Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, & cost, risk, and supportability analyses at all levels of the system life cycle
• Apply engineering principles and standards to support, develop, or review System/Subsystem Hazard Analyses, Bent Pin Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, Sneak Circuit Analyses, Software System Safety Analyses, Functional Hazard Analyses, and Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analyses
• Develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements
• Identify technical issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to resolve the technical issues
• Participate in various system safety meetings with both internal and external stakeholders

Basic Qualifications for a Principal (T03):

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related STEM discipline

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant/related experience, or MS with 3 years of relevant experience

• Familiarity with electrical circuit schematics

• Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and customers

• The ability to obtain a DoD security clearance

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal (T04):

• BS in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related STEM discipline

• Minimum of 9 years of relevant/related experience, or MS with 7 years of relevant experience

• Familiarity with electrical circuit schematics

• Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and customers

• The ability to obtain a DoD security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering with a strong ability to read and interpret electrical circuit schematics

• Experience with concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal of military weapon systems

• Experience analyzing software specifications

• Experience using one or more of the following standards/codes: MIL-STD-882, AFSPCMAN 91-710, ASTM, ANSI, NEC, AFOSH, AOP-52, JOTP-51, PESHE, NFPA.

• Experience developing system safety artifacts

• Engineering leadership experience

• Active DoD Security Clearance

• Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and customers

This position reports to Northridge, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Tucson, AZ, AZ, USA.


Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
