Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Sr. Principal Systems Modeling Simulation Engineer located at our Northridge, CA. location.

Northrop Grumman Defense Sector – Advanced Weapons Business Unit, Advanced Programs (AP) is designing, developing, integrating, and testing new capability for future  advanced missile systems for the current and future battlespace.

This position is to oversee the design, development, integration, and testing of various Active RF sensors into these missile systems under the Guidance IPT.

  • The successful candidate is the primary technical interface between AP and active seeker suppliers.

  • They will work with Global Supply Chain as they interface with supplier Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and be responsible for technical reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Guidance IPT Lead, and the Customer's System Design and Seeker SMEs.

  • Candidates should have experience in:

    • RF propagation from X through W bands

    • Analog & digital signal processing

    • Multipath

    • Ground clutter

    • Radar receiver architecture

    • Traditional and modern signal processing techniques

    • Complex and adverse electromagnetic environments

    • RF "backend processing" and integration with the platform

    • Radar integration with other RF sensors

    • Radar and signal processing modeling & simulation

  • This position will require up to 25% travel.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Electronics Engineering to include a background in Radar/RF, OR a Master’s degree AND 7 years of related professional/military experience in Electronics Engineering to include a background in Radar/RF, OR a Ph.D. AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Electronics Engineering to include a background in Radar/RF. 

  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance. 

  • Must be on-site in Northridge, CA

  • Background in two or more of the following:

    • Radar design

    • Radar developmental testing

    • Radar integration and test

    • Traditional and modern Radar modes

    • Radar system modeling (IQ through signal processing and tracking)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance

  • Current/Active Special Program Access (SAP)

  • Background in the following:

    • Radar Integration, Assembly, Test and Checkout (IAT&C)

    • Radar IAT&C facility and special test equipment requirements

    • Sensor performance validation

    • Complex electromagnetics

    • Advanced signal processing techniques


Salary Range: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
