Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Modeling & Simulation Systems Engineer/ Principal Systems Engineer. to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at our Palmdale, CA site, where technology and teamwork come together.

The selected candidate will use modeling and simulation tools and apply probability-based analytics to analyze current and projected spare parts inventories and optimize recommendations for key metrics. This roll requires frequent collaboration across functional disciplines, offering a highly unique opportunity to obtain a broad understanding of many areas. The Systems Modeling and Simulation Engineer should possess strong communication and technical writing skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks.

Skills in the areas of statistics, simulation modeling, trend & sensitivity analysis, data sampling, and computing are essential.

Modeling & Simulation analysis tasks will include:

  • Spares Modeling
  • Readiness Modeling
  • Obsolescence forecasting
  • Level of Repair (LOR) analysis
  • Cost Analysis
  • Business Case Analysis

This position may be filled at either the Engineer Systems Modeling and Simulation OR Principal Engineer Systems Modeling and Simulation level.

Basic Qualifications for Engineer Systems Modeling and Simulation:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of experience OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of experience
  • Must have advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (extensive formula calculations, pivot tables/charts, macros, etc.)
  • Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher with periodic review or re-investigation within the last 5 years required to start.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program Access (PAR/SAP). This PAR/SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of experience OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience.
  • Must have advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (extensive formula calculations, pivot tables/charts, macros, etc.)
  • Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher with periodic review or re-investigation within the last 5 years required to start.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program Access (PAR/SAP). This PAR/SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Active TS with Special Program Access
  • Experience in aviation and defense programs
  • Project management experience
  • Familiarity with Databases concepts, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle
  • Experience with spares forecasting, availability modeling, repair level strategy modeling, reliability, or maintainability
  • Experience with data mining techniques


Salary Range: $85,000 USD - $127,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
