Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for Senior Principal Systems Architect to lead our team of qualified diverse individuals in the Subsystem Design group. In Vehicle Engineering, we develop manned and unmanned aircraft platforms for all programs in the Aeronautics Systems Sector. This position will be in Palmdale, CA and support the 9/80 1st Shift.

We are looking for Engineers to develop “design for producibility” solutions to difficult problems that are thorough, imaginative, practical, and consistent with program objectives. In the Subsystems Design group, we develop solutions to difficult problems that are thorough, imaginative, practical, and consistent with program objectives. In your day-to-day activities you will participate in the development and review of completed models, drawings, and repairs for accuracy, clarity, and completeness, in order to provide evaluation of engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. You will also lead a team and supervise design solutions from initial concept to final implementation and give concise presentations and explanations of subsystem design issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.

Basic Qualifications:
•    Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline with 9 years of relevant experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline with 7 years of relevant experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 4 years of relevant experience.
•    Working knowledge of mechanical installation of subsystems, such as: electrical, hydraulics, fuels, fluids or propulsion systems.  
•    Proficient in the analysis of one or more of the following mechanical subsystems: hydraulics, fuels, fluids, thermal analysis, ECS, or propulsion systems.  
•    Moderate proficiecy with TeamCenter and CATIA.
•    Familiar with MIL-STD-810 or RTCA/DO-160 requirements
•    Experience with on A/V sub-system testing and trouble shooting
•    Experience with subsystem integration

•    Must have the ability to obtain an active DoD Secret or higher clearance. This clearance must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
•    Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance. This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
•    Experience using Unigraphics Nx or CATIA V5

•    Experience with Model Based Engineering (MBE) or 3-D model engineering definition.

•    Experience with HarnesSys tool for schematic design.

•    Experience in the design of bonded composite primary and secondary aircraft structures.
•    Experience working on Special Access Programs
•    Experience working on military aircraft


Salary Range: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
