Northrop Grumman Aeronautical Systems has an opening for an Engineer to join our Strategic Sourcing Engineering team to support supply base facilitate long range business strategies and tactics. This role under Global Supply Chain (GSC) Sourcing organization will perform Production, Technology Development and Sustainment support activities for multiple military air-vehicle program platforms.  This position is located in Redondo Beach, CA. The Commodity Engineer is responsible for supply base technical management related to acquiring military hardware requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide producibility reviews, technical evaluations of supplier’s proposals and supporting the internal processes associated with program part selection, application, qualification and approval, supplier capability approvals and performance monitoring.

  • Support communication and alignment of suppliers with programs part technology developments.

  • Support of vehicle system commodities and back up peers in mechanical fabrication and assembly commodities in the strategic sourcing group.

  • Travel required up to 25%.

  • Flex available to work remotely part time with manager approval.

Required Skills:

  • In depth knowledge of at least one of the following aircraft systems:

    • Environmental Control Systems, Propulsion/Engines Systems, Landing Gear/Hydraulic Systems, and/or Power Generation & Distribution Systems

  • New product development experience throughout the various phases: development, qualification, production, and postproduction.

  • Work effectively with Vehicle Engineering and Materials & Processes (M&P) organizations to help resolve requirements and technical supplier challenges.

  • Support successful execution with Global Supply Chain and Supplier Quality organizations through the acquisition cycle.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, or Mathematical) degree, with 14 years of experience in an Engineering or Manufacturing role; OR Master’s Degree with 12 years' experience OR PhD with 9 years of experience in Engineering/Manufacturing

  • Demonstrated experience to formulate and execute technical solutions for complex system assembly, and process engineering challenges.

  • Experienced in conducting trades and writing PBS (performance-based specifications) and SCD (source control drawings) and managing requirements for various vehicle systems (i.e. ECS, Electrical Powers, Propulsion, Laging Gear)

  • Demonstrated experience using SAP, Windows software packages, and other electronic databases.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • System integration design and/or manufacturing experience for vehicle systems.

  • Past program management or project management experience.

  • Past direct work experience with a Tier 1/2 supplier in new product development of a system or sub-system LRU.

  • Knowledge of FAR & DFAR requirements

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 requirements

  • Special Access Program and/or DoD Top Secret clearance


Salary Range: $161,000 USD - $241,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
