The Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division of Northrop Grumman's Space Systems sector seeks team members who want to solve interesting, complex problems which protect our nation. We are a trusted mission payload and ground system provider with extensive experience providing end-to-end mission solutions from concept through operations and support. The team you will support is located at our Space Park campus in Redondo Beach, CA.

What you’ll get to do?

As a Systems Engineer or Principal Systems Engineer (Operations) on this team, you will support a team of engineers to define, develop, and implement operations procedures, ground system to satellite commanding scripts, and training materials for ground system operations. You will support efforts in the design and delivery of the ground system, to include operations center and remote antennas, to support spacecraft and spacecraft payloads. You will be responsible for ground system production analysis, interface development and execution, procedure and training verification, and system integration, planning and execution.  You will collaborate with test team on ground system execution requirements.  You will communicate intelligibly with the customer, IPT leads, and team members for in procedure development and reviews. 

Basic Qualifications for Engineer Systems:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 2 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in STEM

  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes

  • Working knowledge of space systems operations (spacecraft, payload, or ground system)

  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance

  • Technical writing and team building skills

Basic Qualifications for Principal Engineer Systems:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5 years of related experience, or 3 years with master’s degree in STEM, or a PhD in STEM

  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes

  • Working knowledge of space systems operations (spacecraft, payload, or ground system)

  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance

  • Technical writing and team building skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Space Test and Operations Language (STOL) and/or Python programming

  • Experience with Adobe Framemaker

  • Experience with Agile development

  • Experience in education design and technologies

  • Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers, and customers

  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts

This position reports to Redondo Beach, CA, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Colorado Springs, CO, CO, USA.


Salary Range: $85,000 USD - $127,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
