SSSD has an opening for a Requirements and Verification Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

The team is seeking an energetic Systems Engineering individual with the ability to proactively work within a team environment supporting an overall set of specific criteria for various milestones, technical exchange meetings, and other forums with internal and external stakeholders, Leadership, and Customers throughout the requirements and verification systems engineering lifecycle.  The Systems Engineer will have direct dialog with the customer in multiple forums and must be able to communicate clearly and concisely in these forums, showing confidence in the established processes.  On occasion, the Systems Engineer will be asked to support activities including requirements and verification deep dives into existing processes and other new scope that may be added to the programs. 

The candidate will be expected to support tasks for the Requirements and Verification System Engineering organization which may include:

  • Providing general systems engineering support to requirements management, verification execution and planning, efficiency tool development, and design review support
  • Providing systems engineering support to segment level requirements development across multiple threads of engineering expertise, which may include managing DOORS modules, scripting, and managing a specification within the tool over multiple builds
  • Providing support to requirement verification planning, execution, and sell off in support of critical milestones
  • Supporting the Verification Lead with requirement verification report (RVR) review and coordinate with Thread Leads and SMEs
  • Understanding and ensuring alignment with established systems engineering processes and configuration management control for segment level space system specifications
  • Development of R&V artifacts including VAM, VCRM, VSOL, etc. and R&V metrics (Rvs.C, TBX burn-down, req volatility, etc.)
  • Supporting the Systems Engineering Design Review Lead on planning and execution of major technical milestone and design review activities as maturity progresses over lifecycle of systems
  • Understanding, explaining, and enforcing the technical baseline horizontally across multiple IPTs and reviews; ensuring design matches the technical baseline, is implemented correctly, and messaged consistently by engineers at all levels of integration
  • Reviewing Requirements vs Capability analyses and verification products for compliance with Customer requirements from the Element level through the Unit level in preparation for Segment level reviews
  • Developing documents as required to support customer and requirements

More specific systems engineering responsibilities may include:

  • Acting as technical liaison to bridge activity flow and progress between Requirements and Verification and Configuration and Data Management teams, and various cross-IPT stakeholders on engineering product deliverables
  • Developing a CDRL tracking tool for managing product deliverables for major milestone reviews and collaborating with the Tools & Analytics team on implementation of tool integration
  • Working through large volumes of engineering review under tight schedules to meet major milestones, which will require an understanding of ERB, CCB, PERB engineering review boards, ECR, waiver, and deviation process and management, and other related processes
  • Stretch assignments may be available for DOORS requirements management support for activities spanning the systems engineering disciplines.  Strong communication skills are desired for internal and external collaboration.

This position requires that the candidate have a strong understanding of one or more of the skills described. The project role includes systems engineering efforts that span multiple phases of design maturity product development life-cycle of programs

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5+ years of related experience OR Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 3+ years of related experience 
  • Active Dept. of Defense Top Secret or SCI level clearance with a background investigation date within 6 years
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SCI clearance
  • Ability to apply technical expertise in Systems Engineering, and knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) and clearly present technical approaches and findings
  • Ability to develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Ability to guide the successful completion of major program activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active SCI clearance
  • Experience working on restricted space programs
  • Familiarity with requirements and verification systems engineering processes
  • Familiarity with Engineering Review Boards, CDRLs, ECRs, waivers and deviations, RVRs, and other related engineering deliverables
  • Knowledge of configuration and data management processes, procedures, best practices, and command media
  • Familiarity with DOORS, Tableau, Enovia, ClearQuest, Space port, SharePoint
  • Interest in learning DXL scripting for requirements management
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under limited direction within the scope of an assignment and use independent judgment in determining methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria
  • Exceptional analytical problem solver and systems-level thinker
  • Academic or work experience in support of one of more of the following disciplines: systems engineering, space vehicle integration and test, space vehicle design and analysis, functional analysis of requirements, design/integration and test, trade studies, performance analysis, interface control, and project management

Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
