Northrop Grumman SSSD has an opening for a Manager Systems Engineering 3 – NGP Communications Payload (CPL) Systems Engineering Lead to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

The NGP CPL SE lead will lead the System Engineering/Integration & test (SEIT) team (>20 heads) developing Communication Payload on the Next Gen Polar OPIR program for two SV's. The Comm Payload consists of protected narrowband and wideband links that utilizes a blend of new NGSS developed hardware, modified heritage comm hardware, and multiple subcontracts.  The SEIT lead will be responsible for architecture, working with thread management, R&V at element and unit level, ICD development with Mission & Auxiliary Payload and S/C, test set development, single string testbed, and SV panel integration & test.  The Comm Payload is identified as critical path for the program with a number of risks that need active risk management. The role requires management of interdisciplinary skills including engineers from SE, E&P, SITE, and SW; developing/mentoring new talent; and requirements/verification of multiple NRE/RE EMs & flight NGAS and subcontracted units for man-made radiation requirements.  The role includes Cost Account Management (>$30M) responsibility of the package post-PDR through CDR in one year, single string testing and flight production after that.

Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution and 9+ years of experience in Engineering (7+ with a MS, 5+ with a PhD)

- Prior experience as a manager or team lead

- Prior experience in Systems Engineer or Hardware development

- Prior leadership and management experience

- Prior experience in cost and schedule management

- Currently possess an Active DoD Secret clearance and is clearable to TS/SCI

Preferred Qualifications:

- Advanced Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math)

- Active TS/SCI and SSBI clearance

- Excellent interpersonal skills

- Aptitude to develop and execute to a strategy

- Self-directed technical leader with strong verbal and written communication skills

- Prior program management or Integrated Product Team leadership experience

- Knowledge of business and finance

Salary Range: $176,100 USD - $264,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
