SSSD has multiple Assistant Section Manager (S01) openings, within the Space Systems Engineering Directorate. The Assistant Section Manager is a dual-hat Engineering Manager responsible for both section management (up to 20% of time) and existing program responsibilities (80% or more of time). Along with reporting into a program, the Assistant Section Manager is also a member of the Space Systems Engineering Directorate Functional Management Organization.  

 

The Assistant Section Manager (ASM) shall be the functional management point of contact at the work site for an assigned section of employees, primarily managing a team of early career T grades (i.e., T01 to T02, with potential for early career T03s). The ASM will support and implement Space Systems initiatives, reporting directly to an S02 Section Manager. The ASM is responsible for flowdown of information to their employees and will lead and participate in Section Meetings with the S02 Section Manager.   

 

Role and Responsibilities 

  • Perform resource planning and staffing 

  • Employee Engagement & Retention 

  • Staff development, including skills training and career support 

  • Performance management, including employee goal setting, annual reviews, and issues resolution

  • Candidate to perform these duties while also performing on program SOW (80%)

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5+ years of engineering experience OR 

  • Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience OR 

  • PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline with no engineering experience required 

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance 

 
Preferred Qualifications: 

  • MS in Systems Engineering or other STEM degree 

  • Demonstrated engineering experience in developing Space Vehicle Testbeds

  • Demonstrated experience in systems engineering and/orrequirements& Space Systems Programs 

  • Previous experience as a manager or leading teams

  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all involved employees 

  • Active SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years OR an active clearance with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years

    Salary Range: $123,200 USD - $184,800 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
