Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems sector is seeking a Mission Systems Embedded Technical Systems Engineer.  The role will be a hybrid between Thread Lead and Requirements and Verification. The role will be in San Diego, CA.


The position requires systems thinking and working knowledge of the full development life-cycle processes that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Candidate must exhibit strong leadership characteristics in coordinating with multiple teams and managing tasks. The candidate must be capable of decomposing segment level requirements/artifacts into high-level architecture diagrams and subsequently Subsystem & SRS/HRS requirements. The candidate will also create software design artifacts to meet subsystem requirements, user stories, and ICDs. Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) organization to present at and support milestone design reviews to ensure software design and development complies with the overall technical vision of the system. The candidate will collaborate with IPT software scrum teams to enforce design adherence in the software baseline, investigate technologies, support trade studies and provide recommendations to IPT management. The role also calls for derivation of verification products and act as a stakeholder for RVR verification and sell-off. 

Requirements and Verification Systems Engineer will also:
- Perform requirements analysis and decomposition.  
- Coordinate verification plans among various IPTs.  
- Utilize Unmanned Aerial ISR systems UML & requirements development tools. (DOORS, Magic Draw & Cameo)
- Define SW Sprint Plan and verification criteria for user stories.  
- Develop use cases and associated UML artifacts for new capabilities.
- Provide analysis and engineering support to new SW development efforts.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 4 years of experience in engineering; or a Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 2 years of experience in engineering. 
  • An active in-scope DoD Top Secret clearance and the ability to obtain program access.
  • Experience supporting Systems Engineering Milestones SRR, PDR and CDR.
  • Experience in full lifecycle of Systems Engineering, including requirements decomposition, test planning, and requirements verification.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Prefer engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Physics
  • Experience working on military aircraft / spacecraft systems
  • Experience in developing, managing, and decomposing requirements
  • Experience in system architecture, CONOPs, or model based system engineering
  • Experience in ICD development and integration
  • Demonstrated communication and technical writing skills. 
  • Proven ability to brief technical presentations to stakeholders.
  • MBSE and Agile Systems Engineering Experience.
  • Experience with DOORS, Confluence, and JIRA.

Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
