Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principal/Sr. Principal Engineer Systems to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.


The selected engineer will have a good understanding of the systems engineering design life cycle and experience with fielded aircraft systems.  The candidate will work closely with the fielded aircraft and US Air Force or FMS (ROK/Japan) customers in support of technical issue resolution, Field Service Action Requests, Tech data discrepancies, and mission engineering. 

They will provide technical root cause evaluations, technical recommendations, data analysis, mission engineering, system integration, and troubleshooting with minimal oversight. 

Principal Systems Engineer Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of engineering experience; MS degree in STEM discipline with 3 years of experience in engineering. PhD degree in a STEM discipline with 0 years of engineering experience

Sr. Principal Systems Engineer Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in a STEM discipline with 9 years engineering experience; MS degree in STEM discipline with 7 years engineering experience; PhD degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of engineering experience

Basic Qualifications for Principal/Sr. Principal

  • An active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Experience supporting Fielded Aircraft Systems
  • Experience in full lifecycle of Systems Engineering, including requirements decomposition, test planning, requirements verification and requirements management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with USAF/ROK/Japan customers
  • Experience in ICD development and integration
  • Experience with multiple disciplines across Systems Engineering, incl. requirements, integration, technical configuration management (CM or Technical Baseline), cyber
  • Experience with root cause investigations, fielded issue investigation, and operational missions
  • Experience with software sustainment
  • Experience in Cost/Schedule Integration, EVMS and CAM responsibilities.


Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
