Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking to add a Flight Test Operations and Maintenance Manager 2 to our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Vandenberg Space Force Base, California with periodic travel to Roy and Promontory, Utah, supporting LGM-35A Sentinel (GBSD). Learn more about the Sentinel program here.  Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

What you will get to do:

  • Grow, develop, and manage a diverse team of flight test engineers and field engineers preparing ICBM launch facilities and flight hardware for flight testing.
  • Oversee construction and renovation of facilities to prepare for supporting ICBM flight test preparation
  • Oversee compliance with occupation health and safety for multiple job sites
  • Participate as part of ICBM flight test mission countdown team
  • Work with Western Range for range asset capabilities and availability
  • Coordinate accreditation activities for multiple facilities to operate in compliance with DoD classification standards
  • Plan and program ICBM flight test preparation activities addressing cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements in a fast-paced challenging environment

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of progressive engineering experience.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance adjudicated within the last 5 years with ability to gain Special Program access
  • 1 year experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule
  • 1 year of experience with ICBM flight test preparation and ICBM maintenance procedures
  • 1 year of Program/Project Management Experience leading a technical team
  • 1 year experience with flight test of a rocket system
  • At least 1 year experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule


  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance adjudicated within the last 5 years
  • Prior experience leading large cross-functional teams
  • 4 years’ experience with ICBM maintenance activities and strong familiarity with ICBM systems
  • Prior experience managing/oversight of facility construction projects
  • Experience in ICBM flight test preparation
  • EVM (Earned Value Management), especially experience as a CAM (Control Account Manager)
  • 6 years of management/ICBM maintenance leadership experience.


Salary Range: $134,600 USD - $201,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
