We are looking for you to join our team as an Airworthiness Systems Engineer based out of Woodland Hills, CA.  As an Airworthiness Systems Engineeer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. What You’ll get to Do:

Perform technical airworthiness consulting, planning and verification support including development and negotiation of airworthiness plans, basis of certifications, means of compliance, and certification activities for complex total systems with engineering teams as well as customer counterparts.   

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. This role will be a lead role and the selected candidate will be required to have excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in STEM/Software/Computer Science or related discipline with 5+ years of Engineering experience or a Master's with 3+ years of experience
  • Familiarity with Military and/or Industry Standards such as: MIL-STD-882, DO-178B/C, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, Joint Services Software Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH), ISO 26262 (Automotive), EN 50128 (Railway), 21 CFR Part 820 (FDA), MIL-HDBK-516C, etc.
  • Ability to work in an open collaborative environment as a member of a software development team and to have demonstrated the ability to independently determine and develop solutions to complex difficult problems.
  • Demonstrated work experience in DOD flight safety critical systems and sub-systems with technical airworthiness planning including development and negotiation of airworthiness plans, basis of certifications, means of compliance, and certification activities. 
  • Experience in making findings of compliance to airworthiness or other safety standards or demonstrating product safety standard compliance to an outside authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with outside customers and organizations.
    History of demonstrated leadership capabilities, excellent presentation skills and ability to work independently. 
  • Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, leadership skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • US Citizenship is required in order to obtain and maintain security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university.
  • Experience with DO-330, DO-331 is a plus.
  • Experience using modeling tools such as MATLAB, MathWorks Simulink, or ANSYS SCADE and using requirements management tools such as DOORS.
  • Experience with all levels of software verification and testing. Aviation/Avionics certification/experience is a plus.
  • Experience in Proposal Writing and creating Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for new business capture efforts is a plus.
  • Extensive experience with requirements development, system/software architecture, Software design, software code implementation, test, verification, and validation
  • Experience developing embedded real-time safety-critical software systems using processes that employ DO-178C guidance and criteria.
  • Experience in translating software requirements into software design, producing software code from designs, and testing and debugging software code. Experience with robust software partitioning design and verification.
  • Experience using software configuration management tools such as IBM Rational ClearCase and ClearQuest and GitHub. 
  • Familiarity and experience with detecting and eliminating common software failure mechanisms.
  • Active Secret DoD clearance.


Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
