The Payload and Ground Systems organization within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) Division Engineering is looking for Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to join the Program Partnerships team within the Workforce Innovation and Strategic Excellence team.

Program Partnerships supports program excellence across the PGS division through current activities such as: Critical skills retention, Internal Review Planning, Engineering metrics visualization, Principles and Operating practices management, and Agile foundations.  Ongoing program collaboration will drive forward opportunities to enhance program excellence.  Our small Agile scrumban team is a dynamic and flexible work family.  Work location is flexible, and flexible schedules including part time support and telecommuting options will be considered. We are looking for a detail oriented, systems engineer to be a key contributor to our efforts toward program excellence.  You will have opportunities to drive process changes, solve engineering problems, maintain clear communications , and measure engineering success – all tasks that positively impact program performance. Responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership of collaboration between the division and BU teams around process improvement and program excellence initiatives
  • Identification of process improvements to address performance gaps through collaboration with the program teams and other functional areas
  • Development and implementation of prioritized plans for execution of initiatives
  • Ownership of select PrOP documents and their updates
  • Implementation of Agile initiatives in Engineering processes and programs
  • Creation, organization, and documentation of the team’s work products
  • Participation in initiatives to provide engineering improvements and commonality

Internally, cross-division, and cross-sector

  • Leadership of the team’s agile ceremonies including scrum meetings, backlog grooming, sprint planning, and release planning
  • Ability and desire to capitalize on opportunities to support proposals, IRADs, or other activities as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; 7 years with a Master's; 4 years with a PhD
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain DoD Top Secret and SCI clearances

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current DoD Top Secret and SCI clearances
  • Agile certifications and experience
  • Full program life cycle experience 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Demonstrated collaboration and relationship-building skills. 
  • AS9100 or CMMI audit experience
  • Experience with Atlassian tools and Tableau or other dashboarding capability

This position reports to Aurora, CO, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Unknown City, CO, CO, USA.


Salary Range: $114,300 USD - $180,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
