We are looking for you to join our team as a Staffl Modeling and Simulation Engineer based out of Colorado Springs, CO. In this position, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be our AFSIM Modeling Simulation Lead for a Mission Level Modeling & Simulation Internal Research and Development (IRAD) project, solving challenging problems and supporting internal and external initiatives throughout various DoD customers and across NG. Through the use of Mission Level Modeling and Simulation techniques, DevSecOps and Agile practices, we continue to evolve how we deliver impactful and meaningful analysis, data analytics/products and capabilities for the warfighter, our government customers and also to our internal NG customers. Our success is grounded in our ability to embrace change, move quickly and continuously drive innovation across the kill chain in the various land, sea, air & space domains. The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.  The AFSIM Modeling Simulation Lead will serve as a mentor and guide other teammates to innovate and solve the nation’s hardest modeling and simulation problems across the kill chain.

This position will require onsite work however for this role we are able to offer flexible work arrangements and some remote work will be possible.

As the AFSIM Modeling Simulation Lead on this program, you will

  • Support leadership meetings and large team meetings
  • Develop solutions for hard, high priority projects within our mod/sim space and work with a team to implement the solutions
  • Research new and novel ways to solve our hardest AFSIM problems
  • Advance the mod/sim capabilities of a 50 person team through mentorship and brown bag sessions
  • Work with various stakeholders to define MS&A objectives
  • Assist in the Design of Experiments and set quantitative analytical approaches
  • Oversee and help establish scenarios that achieve the defined objectives
  • Assess the capabilities and limitations of the AFSIM framework, and where capabilities are lacking, define and architect plug-ins to overcome the limitations
  • Establish technology roadmaps that expand our MS&A overall capabilities and ensure that our OUTMATCH IRAD remains relevant

Candidate is expected to operate independently with little oversight in a dynamic environment, to be highly self-motivated. The individual is expected to handle diverse assignments with efficiency, finding unique solutions and working in a very collaborative and fast paced environment that continues to grow in size.

Basic Qualifications for Staff Modeling and Simulation Engineer:

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • 14 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline; 12 years of relevant experience with a Masters' degree; 9 years of experience with a PhD
  • Deep understanding and experience with AFSIM
  • Domain expertise in defense, especially Missile Defense, sensors, and satellite systems
  • Familiarity and direct experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML) and concepts
  • Deep understanding of DoD systems engineering requirements
  • Experience in modeling across multiple engineering areas such as Space Sensors, Ground Sensors, Weapons
  • Demonstrated experience quickly learning new concepts and approaches
  • Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers and customers
  • Experience as SME, Technical lead, Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead, or other engineering leadership role on a modeling and simulation project

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience and/or exposure to software engineering and modeling and simulation
  • Experience in business capture engagement and proposals
  • Experience in systems development, integration, and test 
  • Experience in Wargaming using Modeling and Simulation
  • Experience with Agile development
  • Excellent technical writing and team building skills
  • Working knowledge of software engineering principles and processes

Salary Range: $146,300 USD - $219,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
