Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Site Development Engineer to join our diverse and talented engineering organization in support of our National Defense as part of the Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) Program. Join an exciting and new program as we embark to solve complex and novel engineering challenges.  As a Site Construction Systems Engineer on the DARC program, you will be a deputy to the Site Lead during the design and construction phases. The design phase will be located at the Northrop Grumman Colorado Springs location for the first year. The construction phase will be located at the INDOPACOM site location and will require relocation to the site for approximately 3 years.

The DARC will be a remote greenfield site in the INDOPACOM region. Primary scope of the site development and construction project includes roads, ductbanks, foundations for many large antennas, multiple facilities, chilled water systems, water management, power plant, electrical distribution, and security fencing. In the design phase you will be responsible to drive the design, derive and allocate requirements, support major A&E and construction subcontracts, review and redline large drawings packages for 30/60/90% reviews, aid in start-up and commissioning planning and execution, support earned value and cost management, provide schedule inputs, and brief program leadership. The successful candidate would have a background as an MEP Engineer (mechanical, electrical and plumbing), Civil Engineer, Construction Management, or similar. A Systems Engineering background with experience in construction and start-up of large, complex equipment systems would be suitable. Experience in systems testing and documentation is a plus. The candidate should have some broad site development experience with depth in some areas of the primary program scope, be able to work in a large team environment, and work collaboratively with all Engineering disciplines and Program Management to meet our customer’s needs.

This position can be staffed at a level 3 or 4, based on the basic qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level 3: 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.

  • Level 4: 9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tool suite

  • Ability to travel up to 10% during the design phase (phase duration is approximately 3 to 6 months from start date, remote/hybrid work acceptable during this period)

  • Ability to relocate to the remote greenfield site in the INDOPACOM region during the construction phase (relocation may be required as soon as soon as 3 months after start date)

  • Experienced with the Architecture and Engineering (A&E) design process

  • Experienced with reading, interpreting, and review of A&E drawing packages

  • Experienced with large scale site design, development, and construction

  • Technical design experience in at least one primary element of A&E design (i.e. power plant or BESS design, high voltage power distribution, civil engineering, facility mechanical systems)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance

  • Technical design experience in more than one primary element of A&E design

  • Major subcontract technical management

  • Experienced with Federal programs or military construction (MILCON)

  • Experienced with overseas construction

  • Experienced with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)

  • Experienced with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

  • Experienced with supervising large scale construction projects

  • Experienced with proposal development and proposal evaluation

  • Experienced with value-added engineering and constructability analysis

  • Experienced in integrating large, complex systems

  • Experienced in start-up, testing, and commissioning large, complex systems

  • Experienced with earned value management and program schedule derivation

  • Experienced with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools (i.e., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, or other)

  • Experienced with Radio Frequency (RF) microwave systems such as radar, satellite communications system, or parabolic antennas


Salary Range: $95,100 USD - $142,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $117,900 USD - $176,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
