As a Systems Engineer/Principal Systems Engineer, you will be developing and sustaining systems using current technologies and others yet to come. Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector is seeking applicants for a position on the Sustainment and Modernization of Radar Sensors (SMORS) program as an Engineer Systems/ Principal Engineer Systems. This position will focus on activities for the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) Precision Acquisition Vehicle Entry (PAVE) Phased Array Warning System (PAWS) (BPP). This position will be located at the Colorado Springs, CO facility near the airport, and some travel may be required.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, team-oriented environment and be a self-starter, efficient in achieving goals, and proactive in pursuing subsequent tasks.

  • Perform System Architecture Design, Development, and Delivery

  • Evaluate system functional and performance characteristics and requirements to define product and service’s needs.

  • Work in a team performing day-to-day delivery order tasks.  Such as, and not limited to, hardware, software, cybersecurity, test, and sustainability functions.

  • Participate in trade studies to support the selection of preferred design solutions, commercial hardware or software components, and preferred course of action alternatives.

  • Participate in system design reviews and creating and/or updating specifications, designs, and technical baseline documentation.

  • Support system requirements reviews and creating and/or updating requirement specifications and technical baseline documentation.

  • Generate, review, and update technical baseline artifacts and collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure specifications meet system needs and are accurate, comprehensive, consistent and complete.

  • Review technical baseline documentation to ensure the design meets system needs and is accurate, comprehensive, consistent, and complete.

  • Support the development of system test and/or integration plans, procedures, and scenarios used in the conduct of integration and testing activities.

  • Concentrating on documentation but understanding hardware and software is critical to updating the associated documentation.

This position can be staffed a level 2 or 3, based on the basic qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level 2: Engineer Systems Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited college with 2 years of systems engineering experience; or 0 years experience with a Master’s degree.

  • Level 3: Principal Engineer Systems Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited college with 5 years of systems engineering experience; or 3 years experience with a Master’s degree; or 0 years with PhD.

  • Experience writing, updating, and/or verification of system level requirements.

  • Experience writing, developing, and/or managing project technical risk.

  • Experience working with others to solve technical system problems, such as represented in the V-Model for systems development lifecycle.

  • An active Interim DoD Secret clearance or higher is required to be considered and to start.

  • Familiarity with MS Office suite of tools (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret clearance

  • Technical writing skills for generating analysis and reports

  • Familiarity with the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) Precision Acquisition Vehicle Entry (PAVE) Phased Array Warning System (PAWS) (BPP) or other ground-based radars such as the Perimeter Acquisition Radar Attack Characterization System (PARCS)

  • Familiarity or experience with Agile software development methodologies, i.e. Scrum, Kanban, SAFe

  • Experience in using a requirements management tool, such as DOORS, Jira, and Confluence

Salary Range: $77,200 USD - $115,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $95,100 USD - $142,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
