The Payload and Ground Systems organization within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. We have a System Engineering Integration and Test Lead opening for the BMEWS/PAVE PAWS (BPP) Weapon System (WS).  This is an opportunity to provide guidance and direction for a dynamic team on the Sustainment and Modernization of Radar Sensors (SMORS) program.  The SMORS program executes depot-level sustainment services and modification projects for the Ballistic Missile Early Warning Radar System (BMEWS) and PAVE Phased Array Warning System (PAVE PAWS).  They are designated AN/FPS-132 Upgraded Early Warning Radar (UEWR) operating at five northern hemisphere locations performing missile warning/missile defense and space situational awareness.  The program satisfies scope and objectives for the United States Space Forces (USSF), Sustainment Strategic Warning & Surveillance Systems Program. This position will be based in Colorado Springs, CO.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Responding to system performance observations, conditions, risk, and opportunities

  • Promote creativity and innovation

  • Assess analysis findings, system functional and performance characteristics

  • Perform internal program/corporation and external organization information exchange with the SPO, USSF leadership and operating location points of contacts

  • Perform Business Development

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with (14) years of systems engineering experience; or n (12) years’ experience with a master’s degree; 9 year with a PhD

  • Experience leading a large team of multidiscipline engineers

  • Experience in using a requirements management tool, such as DOORS, Jira, and Confluence.

  • Participate in travel on and as needs basis.  Notionally five (5) percent per calendar year.  Trips are usually well-planned in the future, however short-notice events may surface due to need and responsiveness.

  • Familiarity with MS Office suite of tools (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Preferred Qualifications

  • BMEWS or PAVE PAWS or other ground-based radar system familiarity  

  • Familiarity or experience with Agile methodologies, i.e., Scrum, Kanban, SAFe

  • Technical writing skills for generating analysis and reports


Salary Range: $146,300 USD - $219,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
