Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer – X-Lab to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located out of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO

Position Overview:

The X-Lab is a very fast paced and dynamic environment. The X-Lab is responsible for developing future looking prototypes for the Missile Defense System including Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Development and other critical leading-edge missile defense technologies. The X-Lab has need for a Senior Level Systems Engineer to lead an Experiment Project Team in the systems engineering of advanced concepts including CONOPS development, system interface design, algorithm design, tool development and system analysis (functional and performance). This position will focus on the integration of Post Intercept Assessment (PIA) prototypes and will contribute to other ongoing X-Lab and Experiment Project Teams as needed. The engineer will require the ability to lead a team in the development of system requirements and use cases, CONOPS development, test event planning, test architecture development, peer reviews, and test results analysis. The System Engineer will assess how the prototype system performs using state vectors, integrating source tracks into the prototype and assessing track processing results, generating and assessing concurrent radar and sensor tracks during M&S and live flight events, and enhancing experimental prototypes based on results of these activities. The System Engineer will apply these results to identify and work to enhance future operations. A successful applicant should have a proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform as an Experiment Project Lead for advanced concepts development projects, and as an individual contributor.
  • Contribute in full lifecycle development of advanced concepts.
  • Position is responsible for defining Operations Concepts, designing prototype capabilities, guiding prototype implementation, designing experiment & test strategies, analyzing results and applying results to guide prototype evolution into the Command Control Battle Management and Communication (C2BMC) production system.
  • Support advanced concept demonstrations during live and simulated Missile Defense Agency (MDA) test events.
  • Work with senior C2BMC technical leaders to evolve advanced Missile Defense command and control capabilities.
     

Basic Qualifications:

If applicable, please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume.

  • An active Secret clearance is required.
  • 9 Years with Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 7 years’ experience with a Master’s degree.
  • The Engineer must understand systems engineering, systems design and development.
  • Candidates should have experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g. specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc).
  • Identification and definition of desired capabilities, fielding of new capabilities, system-of-system definition, integration practices and methods, communicating the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users, and missile defense and sensor related data analysis.
  • Ability to analyze high level needs and through a structured and logical approach refine the need into an integrated set of requirements that leads to a fielded product.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with professional analysis tools: Matlab, Excel, S-code, STK, MS-Windows; Unix/Linux Coding skills (Java, C++, or shell scripts) and Agile development tools (Jira) a plus.
  • Familiarity with the application and use of systems engineering tools for requirements management is desirable.
  • Experience in Missile Defense Systems and PIA is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of command and control systems desired.
  • Knowledge of Windows required and Unix/Linux operating systems desired.
  • Knowledge of missile track correlation algorithms a plus.
  • Experience with Missile Defense Systems, Aegis Weapon System and algorithm development highly desired.

Salary Range: $117,900 USD - $176,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
