Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer – X-Lab to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located out of Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The X-Lab is a fast-paced and dynamic environment. X-Lab performs early integration and experimentation with developmental capabilities. This position will focus on the integration of the R&D systems into C2BMC and will contribute to other ongoing X-Lab projects as needed. Effort will involve performing external element integration, playback of data from launch events into the C2BMC and performing an analysis of the system performance and cueing of MDS sensors like SBX.

Essential Functions:

• The engineer will require the ability to contribute to the development of system requirements and use cases, develop CONOPS, plan test events, develop test architectures, conduct peer reviews, and analyze test results.
• Assessing how the C2BMC prototype system performs using state vectors, integrating source tracks into the prototype and assessing track processing results, generating and assessing concurrent radar and sensor tracks during M&S and live flight events, and enhancing experimental prototypes based on results of these activities.
• The System Engineer will apply these results to identify and work to enhance C2BMC for future operations.
• Perform a disciplined system engineering approach to the definition, development, and analysis of the integration of external elements capability with C2BMC.
• Work towards future capabilities such as sensor management, tasking, cueing, and discrimination architectures.
• Participate in developing, executing, and analyzing the results of various tests of the software in a lab environment as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

If applicable, please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume.

• An active Secret clearance is required.
• 5 Years with Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 3 years’ experience with a Master’s degree.
• The Engineer must understand systems engineering, systems design and development.
• The candidate will possess experience in a related engineering environment, with experience and expertise in systems-of-systems definition and integration.
• The Engineer must possess an understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
• A successful applicant should have a proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions.
• Candidates should have experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g. specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, Trade Studies, etc).
• Candidates must have experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions using National Team processes and methods.
• Skills required include: identification and definition of desired capabilities, fielding of new capabilities, system-of-system definition, integration practices and methods, communicating the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users, and missile defense and sensor related data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with the application and use of systems engineering tools for requirements management is desirable.
• Experience in Missile Defense is highly desired.
• Knowledge of command and control systems desired.
• Knowledge of Battle Management CONOPS desired.
• Knowledge of Windows required and Unix operating systems desired.
• Knowledge of ballistic missile track correlation algorithms a plus.
• Experience with professional analysis tools: Matlab, Python, Excel, S-code, STK, MS-Windows; Unix/Linux Coding skills (Java, C++, or shell scripts) a plus.

Salary Range: $95,100 USD - $142,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
