Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an experienced Operations Staff Engineer to support launch and mission operations for the Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, in support of the Missile Defense Agency.

 

Primary operations staff engineer duties will consist of leading the operations crew and command sequences; provide day-to-day expertise monitoring spacecraft bus health and ground system status; execute spacecraft commanding/ground perform files, procedures, and operations alerts; review, incorporate, and execute ground entry point contacts for flight operations; review pass plans for accuracy; oversee schedule change actions as necessary; perform validation checks prior to command execution; ensure successful transmission of commands and receipt of telemetry; assess system state of health and trending of satellite parameters; implement satellite safing procedures, as required; coordinate activities with mission planners and system test team; participate in operations test activities and MDA test events; perform post-pass data archival; troubleshoot satellite and ground system anomalies and recommend recovery actions.

 

Ops staff duties involve leading on-orbit operations throughout the Launch and Early Orbit Test demonstration phase; providing senior technical analyst expertise to ensure spacecraft/payload system health and status; build technical presentations and brief management and the customer on spacecraft/payload products, reports, and issues; and perform short and medium-term trending analysis and participate in long-term operations planning. This position is primarily day shift but requires on-call support of 24/7 flight operations.

 

Basic Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 14+ years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 12+ years of engineering experience OR PhD Degree in a STEM discipline and 9+ years of engineering experience. In lieu of degree must have 17 years of related satellite operations experience.

-Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances: Dept of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 10 years OR Dept of Energy L clearance with a background investigation date within 10 years.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Senior level experience in spacecraft and payload operations planning functions, launch and early-orbit test operations, and satellite command and control on-console operations. Previous experience in operations at the Missile Defense Agency is highly desired.

Salary Range: $132,700 USD - $199,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
