Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Principal Systems Engineer or Sr Principal Systems Engineer.  The selected candidate for this position will report to the Northrop Grumman Precision Targeting and Protection facility in Apopka, FL. 

What you’ll get to do:

The new team member will support the design, integration, test, and production of laser/electro-optical, network and communication systems.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage system requirements.
  • Revises and manages both original and revised specification/interface definition document and expedites documents through signature approval process.
  • Provides data to risk management (identifies potential risks) and trade study processes.
  • Supports system design, data analyses, interface verification, testing, failure/anomaly resolution and mission operations.
  • Supports the testing and/or evaluation/validation of one or more components of a system or subsystem analytical model or actual system implementation.
  • Attends and prepares materials for presentation during System Requirement Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review and System Verification Review.
  • Supports trade studies, system sensitivity studies, design optimization studies, system performance assessments, system design assessments, mission analysis and timelines and concept of operations development.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment supporting an Integrated Product Team.

This position may be filled as a Principal Systems Engineer or a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer based on the qualifications below.”

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer:

  • BS Degree in Engineering or related STEM degree and a minimum of 5 years related experience
  • US Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
  • Experience with requirements development and analysis.
  • Experience with system/subsystem integration, test, and verification.
  • Experience working in the defense industry.
  • Experience in performing failure analysis and driving implementation of robust corrective action.

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:

  • BS Degree in Engineering or related STEM degree and a minimum of 9 years related experience
  • US Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
  • Experience with requirements development and analysis.
  • Experience with system/subsystem integration, test, and verification.
  • Experience working in the defense industry.
  • Experience in performing failure analysis and driving implementation of robust corrective action.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and associated tools (eg, Cameo) 
  • Understanding of Statement of Work and other contractual documents 
  • Experience writing statements of work and estimating project scope.
  • Ability to scope and generate product test plans, lead tests as Test Engineer and generate comprehensive test reports for internal and external customer distribution.
  • Experience working with a cross-discipline team
  • Have proven experience in communicating with all levels of peers, management and customers in a methodical, detailed and process-oriented fashion.
  • Have demonstrated experience in solving technical problems independently with minimal supervision.


Salary Range: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
