Description:

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Grounds Training System Responsible Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future.  This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

**This position may be filled by either a Principal level or a Sr. Principal level based on the qualifications listed.

The candidate will be expected to thoroughly understand all system requirements, specifications, and interface control documents, prepare, monitor, and update project schedules, conduct and participate in all related design reviews, and provide technical guidance to the cross-functional team.   The candidate will collaborate with system responsible engineers, product support engineers, and system test engineers. The Candidate will be primary technical responsible engineer, coordinating with supplier management teams. Daily activities include team collaboration, supplier management, architecture development and support integration. Collaboration with the Product Support Team is in support of development of ground systems and/or training systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Capable of working independently under general supervision and as part of a large multi-disciplined team. Tasking may include responsible engineer activities, which include all aspects of system/ hardware component design and development including trade studies, layouts, architecture definition, system test & verification, and troubleshooting. 

These activities may also include participating on a subcontractor management team and will act as the technical point of contact with suppliers for hardware development, qualification, and procurement. 

Tasking may include system level test planning, execution support, verification, data processing, and troubleshooting.

Attend internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.

Critical Skills:

  • Electronic design of avionics or hardware used on training systems (preferred)

  • Gathering of data, requirements development, interfacing with suppliers and briefing customer

  • Acting as manufacturing liaison during build process of your project to ensure overall quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved

  • Support integration of avionics or hardware on Ground systems and/or training system 

  • Basic knowledge of design and analysis tools for electronic design

Basic Qualifications:

Principal Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 5 years of engineering experience, OR Master’s degree AND 3 years of engineering experience.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

Sr. Principal Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 9 years of engineering experience, OR Master’s degree AND 7 years of engineering experience.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current, active in-scope DoD Secret or higher security clearance

  • Current/active Special Program Access (PAR/SAP).

  • Experience interpreting component detail drawings, installation drawings, and test procedures and drafting technical specifications.

  • Experience in Avionics or hardware development as a Responsible Engineer on a Supplier Management Team

  • Experience with Training Systems and/or Crew Training Devices

  • Proficiency with DOORS

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively

  • Ability to lead fellow engineers on technical efforts

  • Experience performing functional analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.


Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
