Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Principal Avionics Integration Engineer / Sr. Principal Avionics Integration Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future.  This position will be located in Melbourne, FL

**This position may be filled by either a Principal Avionics Integration Engineer level or a Sr. Principal Avionics Integration Engineer level based on the qualifications listed.

The candidate will perform the SOW of the Avionics Integration Engineer guiding the development of the architecture while coordinating with the Technical Lead

Key Responsibilities:

•            Provide Avionics Integration engineering support for the integration of aircraft cockpit systems and components including Flight Management Systems (FMS), Flight Management Computers (FMCs), Primary Flight Displays (PFDs), Control Display Units (CDUs), Helmet Mounted Devices (HMD), Terrain Avoidance and Warning Systems (TAWS), Crew Alerting System (CAS), Moving Maps, and other various avionics systems.

•            Assist in the preparation and support of the verification of aircraft avionics and Prime Mission Equipment installations and aircraft certification documents.

•            Provide support for the development of system safety documents.

•            Create aircraft system schematics to support air vehicle wiring diagrams.

•            Requirements development and analysis with the capability to support trade studies.

•            Manage suppliers, review and analyze supplier design data, define functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration, and support test execution.

•            Informal and formal testing of subsystem requirements in lab, with the ability to troubleshoot hardware avionics equipment in a lab environment.

•            Support flight test activities and post flight data analysis, and resolution of flight test anomalies.

A successful Avionics Engineer has good leadership skills and understands the scope of the work and the impact of the work on other teams. The Avionics Engineer consistently brings up concerns, issues and risk and holds team to a high level of technical rigor.

Basic Qualifications:

For – Principal Avionics Integration Engineer (T03):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of experience OR Master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 3 years of experience OR 0 years’ experience OR PhD and 4 years of experience

  • Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access.

For – Sr. Principal Avionics Integration Engineer (T04):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of experience OR Master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 7 years of experience

  • Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access

Preferred Qualifications:

•            Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) experience

•            Performance Based Navigation (PBN) experience and attaining PBN certification

•            Required Navigation Performance (RNP)/ Area Navigation (RNAV) certification experience

•            Experience designing to RTCA DO-178 software standard for RNP RNAV certification

•            Experience designing to RTCA DO-254 hardware standard for airborne electronic systems

•            Experience designing to RTCA DO-200 standard for processing aeronautical data

•            Experience designing to RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards for environmental qualifications


Salary Range: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
