Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineer / Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, Florida.

This position will support the Strike MST RDI group & work with other IPT disciplines to implement design requirements and architecture. Candidate will provide engineering leadership, analysis, & execution support for the development of innovative systems. Focus is on creating Interface Control Documents (ICD’s), reviewing Supplier Data Requirements List (SDRL’s) & Air Worthiness artifacts & Technical Data Packages (TDP’s), technical integration and coordination with internal & external engineering teams to solve complex issues, & supporting the PM with scheduling and closure of activities.  Must thrive in fast-paced work environments with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, & collaborative/team settings across all levels. 

Responsible for requirements analysis, development, allocations and tracing, performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, running detail trade studies, requirements allocation & interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into capability-based requirements. Must provide design assessments and perform verification checks; develop technical, system integration & verification plans and track progress; perform cost trades; perform risk analysis, develop mitigation plans & track closure; develop interface control documents with minimal oversight.

Help ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

Essential Functions:

• Review Supplier SDRLs & Air Worthiness Artifacts. Apply technical expertise, knowledge to review SDRL’s for technical content & determine if additional actions required before submitting CDRLs.

• Work w/suppliers & MST engineering and/or other IPTs to discuss resolution options to close out supplier SDRL deliveries & Air Worthiness artifacts.

• Additional responsibilities (supplier ICD’s, SDRL’s, Contractor Data Requirements List (CDRL’s), or AW artifacts) may be required.   

• Able to communicate effectively & clearly present technical approaches and findings.  Exercises expert Technical and program review boards leadership

• Apply extensive technical expertise in development of technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity & creativity.  Expertly manage engineering change proposals 

• EWW (Overtime) may occasionally be required.

Requisition may be filled by a Systems Engineer or Principal Systems Engineer.

Basic Qualifications: 

Systems Engineer: Bachelor of Science (BS) in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline & 2 years’ experience OR Master of Science (MS) in a STEM discipline.

Principal Systems Engineer: BS in a STEM discipline & 5 years’ experience OR MS in a STEM discipline with 3 years' experience OR PhD in a STEM field.

Active Secret DoD Clearance w/investigation in the past 5 years.

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to start.

• Military Aircraft DoD Programs experience 

• Knowledge of US National Airspace System (e.g., Surveillance, Communications and Performance Based Navigational requirements)

• Understanding of common System Engineering processes and procedures

• Knowledge of civil or military airworthiness requirements & compliance.

• Basic knowledge of Lab Integration/Test Environment 

• Experience with direct interface and collaboration with customer representatives.  

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Requirements Management 

• Knowledge of Lab Integration/Environment(including familiarization with creating / implementing ATP’s, Installation & Check out procedures and Test Equipment)

Preferred Qualifications:

Systems Engineer position: Prefer Aeronautical, Electrical or Mechanical degree with Completion of a 14CFR 141 Flight Training program including a Commercial Pilot certificate or greater with Instrument Rating.  

Principal Systems Engineer positions: Prefer Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Engineering degree.

• Experience with civil aviation integration and regulation 

• Familiar with establishing an airworthiness certification basis

• Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 and/or RTCA DO-160

• Expertise using DOORS or similar requirements management tool sets

• Experience conducting MIL-HBK-516C Airworthiness Assessments or supplier audits

• Knowledge of Range Commanders Council (RCC) IRIG-106 Standard for Data recording and Telemetry

• FAA pilots license & instrument rating


Salary Range: $73,400 USD - $110,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
