Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an exciting career opportunity for a Vehicle Engineering Section Manager 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals working at our Melbourne, Florida campus (2 positions available).

Job Summary: This hands-on leadership position will manage a team of 10-15 engineers toward completion of program directed activity while also performing functional manager duties reporting to the department manager (approx. 80% engineering responsibilities). As technical lead you will ensure the team meets program schedule and budget goals while also employing good design practice principles. As a functional manager you will be responsible for people, processes, tools, and technology to meet the current and future design and analysis needs of unclassified and classified programs. You may also support technology, tools, and process initiatives across the sector.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide technical and functional oversight to one of the following teams:

    • Electrical Wiring Design – Team creates subsystem architecture for all subsystems in the vehicle along with designing cable assemblies, supporting cable build, and possible on-site functional checkout on a very limited basis.

    • Subsystem Integration – Team coordinates with multiple internal teams (system Responsible Engineers, software teams, maintenance and pilot communities, Lab Infrastructure) to develop test procedures in support of verifying program requirements. A significant aspect to this role is troubleshooting when things don’t function as expected.  

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, direction, engagement, and skill development to team members

  • Ensure team follows NGC policies

  • Coordinate staffing with IPTs and support the hiring process (to include resume review, interviewing, offer recommendations, and onboarding)

  • Establish and manage performance goals and provide regular feedback

  • Administer Performance Management Process and salary review processes in conjunction with program IPT leaders and functional homeroom.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 9 years of relevant professional/military experience; OR Master's degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 7 years of relevant professional/military experience

  • Experience in Cable Design and/or Subsystems Integration

  • Background in military air vehicles

  • Active in-scope DoD Secret clearance

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in technical leadership and guidance in Vehicle Design and/or Integration

  • Demonstrated ability and experience leading an engineering or cross-functional team


Salary Range: $127,700 USD - $191,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
