Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a  Sr. Principal Systems Engineer Level  4 in our Engineering department for our Palm Beach Gardens, Florida office.

The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers.  The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Job Summary

This position will be a full time Systems Engineering lead for our Propulsion Systems and Controls group in PBG. The lead will be expected to aide in integrating existing systems engineering efforts used at our other sites, into the current programs at PBG and mentor product engineers in systems engineering methodology. This position will be responsible for leading the systems engineering technical planning, requirement development and maintenance, system verification, and cost/risk management, for air-breathing propulsion systems. The engineer will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into system specifications and Model based architecture that Product Engineers can design to. They will work in a dynamic cross-functional team to meet schedule objectives and deliverables, and oversee and guide work performed by junior engineers within Systems Engineering and Product Engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leads development of Systems Engineering activities as required by the program SOW, working closely with Product Engineering, Analysis, and Program Mangement.
  • Provide Systems Engineering leadership and direction in a high tempo work environment.
  • Work with other PS&C Systems Engineering counterparts to integrate Systems Engineering methods into the Palm Beach Gardens site.
  • Create and manges system requirements in accordance with program and company standards.
  • Creates, manages, and approves the requirements verification methods and database provided to the customer, to ensure, as the system design/build matures, that it satisfies each system requirement.
  • Directs and supports proposal-writing efforts or authors sections/volumes for Systems Engineering for a project.
  • Provides risk management (identifies potential risks and develops mitigation strategies) for a significant portion of a project.
  • Leads and aide with development of the program System Architecture under self-direction using CAMEO or similar software.
  • Provide program management office and mission planning/operations support.
  • Leads, prepares and presents system engineering materials during System Requirements Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review and System Verification Review and other formal program reviews.
  • Provides IPT leadership and primary interface to customer for System Engineering Activities.
  • Performs and manages cost estimates and project planning for a significant portion of larger project.
  • Mentor junior technical contributors in the discipline of systems engineering.

Basic Qualifications Engineer Systems 4:

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance, which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering & 9 years of experience or Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering or Engineering & 7 years of experience or a PhD & 4 years of experience.
  • Proficient ability to use Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Project)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills.
  • Prior experience mentoring lower level engineers.
  • Experience within a Model Based Systems Engineering Domain.
  • Familiarity with Siemens NX or an equivalent tool.
  • Experience generating or reviewing cost estimates/basis of estimates (BOEs)
  • Familiarity with DOORs requirements Mangement Database.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Active Security Clearance
  • 3+ year of experience in Mechanical or Electrical Design of Aerospace products.
  • 2+ years using or implementing model-based approaches and tools with experience in UML tools and DoDAF.
  • Experience developing requirements, functional, and physical architecture within CAMEO Systems Modeler or CAMEO Enterprise Architect.
  • Systems engineering experience within the Development life cycle phase of a military product.


Salary Range: $117,900 USD - $176,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
