Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is a leading global provider, manufacturer and integrator of advanced, secure and agile software-defined systems and solutions. Our products range from advanced sensing technologies to state-of-the-art targeting and tracking systems that are deployed in Infrared Countermeasures (IRCM) / Aircraft Survivability Systems (ACS), Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR), and Radio Frequency Electronic Warfare (RFEW) systems. These systems are designed, developed, built, integrated, and tested by the capable folks at our company to protect the lives of U.S. and Allied warfighters in present and future conflicts.We are looking for you to join our team as a Systems Engineering Manager based out of Rolling Meadows, IL. As a Systems Engineering Manager at Northrop Grumman, you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation.What You’ll get to Do:This is a dual responsibility position, so the candidate with spend part of their time managing the team and part of their time working as a Modeling & Simulation Lead or contributor on programs within the area the team supports.If selected as the Manager for the SEIT Modeling & Simulation, as Modeling & Simulation Lead, you will provide leadership in applying the core principles of model-based systems engineering in order to deliver innovative, affordable, highly reliable systems solutions that meet customer needs, key performance parameters, and program execution goals. The Modeling & Simulation Lead will lead multi-disciplined engineering teams (ranging from 1 to 30+ engineers) from business capture through system design and then integration and test of highly complex technical systems in a model-based environment while maximizing focus on reuse and ineroperability.  Responsibilities may include engineering leadership for system architecture development, requirements development, modeling & simulation, hardware/software design, verification and validation activities, and production program engineering support. A person in this position ensures that the program is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainment of products for our customers and that the program and product is compliant with company policy, procedures, and quality standards. The successful candidate will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. He/she will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.The candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. He/she will have an ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with the managers of other engineering disciplines as well as program directors/managers. Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering / technical discipline with a minimum of 9 years’ experience or a Master of Science degree in an engineering / technical discipline with a minimum of 7 years’ experience.
  • Proven demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills along with proven success working in an integrated product team environment.
  • Knowledge of MSBE principles and practices
  • High proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring.
  • This position requires the applicant to be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have the ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance prior to start date. Once started, must have the ability to obtain and maintain a full secret clearance.
  • Ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) clearances.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Secret / Top Secret Clearance.
  • Background and understanding in various tools and techniques associated with cost / schedule management (especially Earned Value Management).
  • Program Management experience or Functional Management experience leading teams including Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test.
  • Minimum of 9 years’ experience working in a systems engineering, integration, and test environment.
  • Minimum of 9 years’ experience with electronic warfare, EO/IR, laser, or related defense systems.
  • Experience in all aspects of the engineering process from proposal / requirements analysis through verification testing.
  • Proficiency in MS Project, MS Office, MATLAB, Simulink, Cameo, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE), and Agile techniques.
  • Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty.

Salary Range: $141,100 USD - $211,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
