Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Systems or Principal Systems Electro-Optical / Infrared (EO/IR) Engineer with a focus on Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) at our Rolling Meadows, IL location.  The selected candidate will report to the Systems Engineering, Integration and Test (SEIT) Targeting Department. 

NGMS is a leading global provider, manufacturer and integrator of advanced, secure and agile software-defined systems and solutions. Our products range from advanced sensing technologies to state-of-the-art targeting and tracking systems that are deployed in Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR)  systems. These systems are designed, developed, built, integrated, and tested by the capable folks at our company to protect the lives of U.S. and Allied warfighters in present and future conflicts. Our SEIT organization provides complex avionics systems in Targeting EOIR area.

The MBSE focused EO/IR Systems Engineer applies core principles of systems engineering to create system descriptive models in the form of use case diagrams, activity diagrams, and block diagrams with traceability to system requirements in order to deliver innovative, affordable, highly reliable systems solutions that meet customer needs, key performance parameters, and program execution goals.  Responsibilities may also include requirements development, allocation, and decomposition, functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications that tie into system descriptive models.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer: 
• BS degree in STEM field with 5+ years related experience or MS degree in STEM field with 3+ years of related experience

• Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and Systems Thinking mindset

• Systems Engineer with requirements development experience and interest in MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineer).  

• Excellent decision making and communication (written and oral) skills
• Strong work ethic and the ability to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment
• Experience in an integration and test environment for complex electronic systems

• US Citizenship with ability to gain Active Secret Clearance prior to starting with Northrop Grumman


Preferred Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer: 
• Experience with real-time signal processing in both firmware and software. Agile experience a plus.
• Experience with MBSE concepts, languages (e.g. SysML, UML) and tools (e.g. Cameo or Rhapsody)
• Working knowledge of DOORS and ClearCase/ClearQuest
• Working knowledge of specialty areas related to Targeting, EOIR/RF systems: sensors/antennas, transmitters/receivers, optics, detection and tracking

• Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance and demonstrated ability to obtain SAP clearance


Salary Range: $99,800 USD - $149,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
